Wilbur looked back to Schlatt whose tone of voice was disappointed. "Ah- Yeah. I'm handlin-"

"Are you?"

Wilbur was at a loss for words as Schlatt challenged him.

"Are you handling it Wilbur? You're not looking after yourself and you're focused so much on your country that you miss half of your life when it's right in front of you. If you don't look after yourself and we go to war, what are you gonna do then? You won't have the energy to fight."

Wilbur looked down to the ground. "That's why I'm not going to let us go to war." He looked up from the ground to meet Schlatt's cold stare with a calm, determined, one of his own.  "I'm not going to let Tommy, Tubbo, Fundy, anyone, get hurt. I don't plan on letting Dream have his way, but I plan to do it without war." Wilbur spoke with purpose and confidence, but on the inside he was ready to panic. He took a deep breath and looked at Schlatt as he sighed.

"You have all these plans. What are you going to do when someone challenges that? Dream can just bring you to war anyways."

"I know." Wilbur set the letter down on the desk and walked over to the window. He looked out to see Tommy and Tubbo talking together. "If Dream decides to push, I'll handle it myself. No one from this nation will get hurt."

Schlatt watched as Wilbur moved to the window. "Wilbur what the fuck are you talking about?"

Wilbur turned to Schlatt. "It's my duty as the President of L'manburg to keep its citizens and the nation itself safe. If that means risking one of my lives, then that's what I'll do."

Schlatt stared at him, speechless for a moment. "You're more of an idiot than I thought."

"And you haven't changed. This morning meant nothing to you, hm?" Wilbur walked back to his desk, lightly dismissing Schlatt so he could sit down to work. "Schlatt, if you'll excuse me. I have work to do."

Schlatt laughed. "Right. My bad Mr.President. You know you can't stay President forever. Someone will take your place eventually."

With those words Schlatt left the office.
