Wilbur leaned farther into the embrace, stiffening a little at the statement. He paused and took a deep breath and then began. "Just- let the stuff you said go to my head- and then hopped straight into work. I wrote Dream a letter-"
Schlatt played with Wilbur's hair as he spoke. "I was mad, half of the stuff I said is just me being over worried because I care about you. Oh yeah?"
Wilbur smiled at the softness in Schlatt's voice. "Yeah- I'm addressing the issue and asking for peace. If that doesn't work I have to decide if I want to duel him myself or let us go to a war we're bound to lose. I- don't want to put Tommy and the others through that."
Schlatt nodded. "You know, you could try bringing up an election. You've been in power for a while."
Wilbur moved so he could look at Schlatt. "An election- hm."
"I wrote out some letters but I haven't sent them yet. We could hold an election to satisfy Dream."
Wilbur nodded. "It could work- but what about me if I don't win the election-?"
Schlatt could feel Wilbur's breathing getting shallow and panicky again. "Breathe loverboy."
Schlatt waited till Wilbur's breathing was normal before speaking. "If you don't win, then that's that. Doesn't mean you have to leave the country or something like that. Just means that you're a citizen. Someone can ask for advice while running the nation. You get to live a normal-ish life."
Wilbur nodded and sighed. "Yeah.. you're right. I just- I've run this place for so long it'll be weird.."
"It'll be weird at first but you'll adapt. Besides, you'll have more time to hang out with Tommy, Fundy, and everyone else. I'm sure you'll enjoy it."
"Heh- yeah." Wilbur smiled. "I would enjoy that."
Schlatt smiled and brushed some hair out of Wilbur's face. "See? An election wouldn't be a bad idea even if it wouldn't satisfy Dream."
"Yeah- I'll keep it in mind. Thanks Schlatt"
"Of course Wil, now how about we get you back to work yeah?"
"Yeah-"
