eris barely slept that night in the room next to druigs. too many questions ran through her head for her mind to turn off. the sun rose quickly and eris heard the quiet noise of the villagers starting there work.
druig woke up mid morning like usual almost forgetting the girl in the next room. he couldn't help the sigh that left his mouth. a charismatic person only came around once a few centuries making a part of him almost wanting her to stay to keep him company. with the thought of eris in his mind he got up and threw on a shirt while making his way down the hall. when he knocked on the door and got no response he quickly opened the door to see the room vacant. he slightly frowned realizing she must have left once there was daylight.
with a slow pace he made his way to the dining hall greeting a few people that walked by him. breakfast would be ready soon so he made his way into the kitchen seeing if they needed his assistance.
"very good, you are a natural!"
"thank you." her soft voice made him smile as he realized she hadn't left but got up to help the villagers.
"you've been busy." druigs irish accent caught her off guard. she smiled softly hoping he wasn't mad that she had stayed. she watched him lean against the door with a smug grin.
"i hope you don't mind."
"she has been great. she helps gather eggs and collect water. she's got a strong heart." an elder spoke up while prepping the food.
"you're welcome to stay as long as you want then." with that he left the kitchen and didn't speak much to eris during breakfast. the elders sat around her telling her all about the generations that were raised here. druig found himself wonder what she was doing while he was helping around the village as the day went on. right before the sun started setting he felt an energy pulling him towards the river. with quiet footsteps he neared the edge of the woods and watched in amazement.
eris sat at the edge of the water and with a single touch of her finger gold swirls danced on top of the water.
"i can hear you." she mumbled while turning around. she had her knees tucked into her chest and her hair had been braided earlier in the day by the little girl that had begged her.
"i thought i was stealthy." druig chuckled as he appeared from the trees. she smiled back at him and continued playing with the water.
"it's peaceful." she whispered not even looking up to see that druig wasn't looking at the water but instead her.
"it is." he whispered back watching as she glanced up to him. "i wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave though. the amazon gets a little stuffy"
she giggled at his remark making him smile.
"actually i'm kinda on the run."
"assassin stuff?" he questioned causing her to slightly frown. she left that years ago when she joined the avengers initiative. natasha was the agent who found her after she had escaped and brought her to shield. natasha made it her mission to make sure they gave eris the same chance they gave her. not long after that she was reunited with steve to fight in new york. but when they found out the man attacking them in d.c. was bucky she was sent into a spiral. they quickly caught her and brainwashed her again but she was lucky that natasha helped her remember.
"no actually. crazy ex boyfriend stuff." she said almost laughing out loud at how stupid that sounded.
"and he's tracking you?" druig questioned sounding genuinely concerned.
"kinda. a couple weeks ago he went m.i.a and wouldn't answer any calls. ends up that he was off fighting some crime gang and when i told him i was just worried he got mad at me. i guess you just can't put two brainwashed ex assassins together." eris remarked while druig stared off into the distance and let out a soft hum. she watched him nearly seeing the wheels turning.
"i mainly kept up with you on the news because i was curious. i can't imagine what you've gone through. i mean i've been controlling minds for centuries but i never really thought of what it would be like to be on the other side." druig spoke timidly afraid something he would say might upset her.
"centuries? how old are you?" she asked completely avoiding the fact that he revealed his power to her.
"i've got a few under my belt." they both laughed it off and sat in the silence listening to the sound of the forest.
"so," druig spoke up breaking the silence. "what exactly is your power?"
"i'm pretty sure it's a form of telekinesis? bruce banner ran test on me but he never came to a full conclusion." she said and then raised her hand to show gold swirling around her hand, almost like wanda.
"i control minds." he mumbled and she hummed in response. "i'm sure you caught onto that."
"we should go back." she said glancing around the forest. druig realized that she caught on that the sun was setting. he frowned slightly but stood and and extended his hand down to her. she smiled and gently took it but blushed as she realized that he wasn't letting go.
when they arrived back into the village dinner was being served. this time he didn't let her escape and sat her right next to him. he told her stories of babylon and athens as she watched him with wide eyes. she opened up about steve and bucky back in 1940 and all the trouble they used to get into. when nearly everyone was gone from the dining hall they finally made their way back to druigs house. even though it was dark eris felt comfortable because of the hand druig placed on her lower back letting her know he was there.
"goodnight little one."
"goodnight druig."
