I tried to stay up for Eijiro while he snuck into the guy's showers. I tried to, but.. the next thing I knew I was waking up to a sun-kissed room, wrapped in his sturdy hold. He stayed..
I don't know whether I heard or felt it, but I know a phone is vibrating nearby. I slowly detangle to find mine, surprised to see so many messages. Eijiro wakes up and looks for me, first at my vacated spot, then to where I stand between the beds. "Good morning." He said lazily.
I smile at his bed head. "Good morning." I crawl back in but sit up, "I thought my phone was ringing.. but maybe it was yours.."
He rubs his eyes and whines. "Who's buggin' this early in the morning? And on the weekend?" He freezes mid body stretch. Did he just remember everything? "H-how.. are you feeling?" He asks, sitting up as well.
"? I'm good.. You?" I can't help but to ruffle his hair.
"I.. I slept well." He admits sheepishly.
"Good, I did too." I smile but it fades as read repeated messages of concern. "Oh no.. everyone was still worried about me from last night.."
Eijiro finally goes for his phone. "Missed calls from Izuku.." He mumbles before calling back.
"Where did you stay last night?" I heard clearly through the phone.
"What kind of question is that?" Eijiro turned away, sitting on the edge of the bed. I reach out to get his attention, shaking my head 'no' and 'don't'. We stared at each other with big eyes until he ended the call with a "I'll call you later.."
An awkward silence fell upon us. I didn't really have an explanation to offer.. It's not like we're dating now.. And I don't think he's ready to ask or answer that yet either.
"I probably should.. get going.."
"Okay." I answer a little too quickly. Gosh why did he have to call him back right then? I watch as he gathers his things and tries to fix his hair in my mirror.
"I have a brush.. there.." I try to literally smooth things over.
He turns around and shrugs, "Eh, it's fine. I'm just going to my place." He comes back towards me, deciding how to say goodbye. "Um. See you in class?"
I smirk, lifting my chin to invite a peck. Instead, he kisses me softly on the head. "Try to get some more sleep, yeah?" He bids, forehead to mine. He cheeses then sees himself out.
I plop down and kick in place. He's so.. then I shift to hunch up into fetal. But did I.. hurt his feelings? I mean, it's normal for a girl to not want a guy to talk about the things they do in private - to their friends, right? That's.. what that was.. right?
I start responding to the messages that have easier answers. I feel bad for leaving everyone hanging so long.. Or maybe I feel guilty that I snaked myself around a guy who was ready to go home. I cringe at myself, my parents would be disappointed. But thinking back on last night.. how gentle and considerate he was with me. It was.. really nice.
My stomach growls, prompting the thought - no - the demand for breakfast.
To Shinso: Are you a weekend brunch kind of guy? I'm down for something sweet..
Shinso: Are you allergic to cats?
Huh?It's a nice spring day and downtown is quieter than usual. Everyone must be recovering. ..And then there's Shinso, who has recommended for us, a cat cafe. We get there and right away the cats are drawn to him.. has he been here before?
We order teas and bakery treats. Some breakfast.. but it's totally sweet. Before I get my card out to pay, Shinso has beat me to it. "This was supposed to be on me thoughhh," I half whine.
He smiles but it doesn't reach his eyes. I watch him rub his neck before deciding to help him out with the answer he doesn't know to ask for.It gets a little easier to talk about the 'rents - the more I pet the friendly cat that's taken up residence across my feet.
Shinso listens intently, holding a cat himself. "I'm sorry that happened.. it must have been hard on you."
Looking at him now, I think of how I had teased him in the alleyway that first night we met. This sweet guy, I shouldn't have been like that. "Thank you for saying that.." I smile and take a swig of my peach green tea lemonade. It's So good.
"What did you think of the session yesterday? Did you like it?"
He takes a moment and gives a few furry head rubs before answering. "I don't know if becoming a hero is for me. I spend enough time just trying to convince people that I'm not out to brain wash 'em." He ends with a self deprecating chuckle. The cat on his lap does a full body stretch then pounces off.
What happens next happens too quickly, a nearby waitress trips over that same cat and her tray of drinks go flying. Shinso hops up and shields me at the table. Most of her tray's contents end up spilled onto his back.
"Are you okay?" He asks though he's wincing.
Were the drinks hot? I stand up around him quickly checking his back under his sweater. "Shinso!" I yell in shock and because I'm upset.
"Get us towels.. napkins.. anything!," I order the waitress who had just frozen in place.
I try to pull the sweater the rest of the way off.
"No.. i-it's fine!" He struggles with his tone.
His back is red and splotchy. "Don't move so much, just wait a bit. I'm sorry Shinso, I'm so sorry. If I had put up my barrier.. on the b-both of us.." I can't hold back my regret. He's rebutting but I'm not listening.
The waitress comes back and I grab the supplies from her to pat him down.
"It's fine.. really." he pleads his case.
I spread my hand with ointment across his lower back and feel him shudder. "Was I too rough?" I swing around to see his face. Oh, he is RED.***
