A/n ahh am in pain. Brain is dead... the second half of the chapter was really hard to write because of writers block but is okay... enjoy!

The sound of the coffee dripping for the thousandth time brought him back. He immediately went to look for a rag before cleaning up the mess. He placed the cup in the sink and grabbed a new one. It felt routine and Shinichi almost wanted to cry.

He did nothing wrong, yet felt as if everything was his fault. He was sure the other knew of his feelings, but did he truly feel as though the other did not return them? He stared in the direction of Hattori's room as if it would help. He stared before he decided to go. He should apologize, for something. For hurting his feelings? Miscommunication? He didn't know. But he should apologize.

He went up the stairs and knocked on his door. He heard nothing, so he opened it and walked in. The first thing he saw, was the fact that he was in his bed, seemingly asleep.

He wanted to speak and he was fully prepared, but the heavy silence in the room forced him to stop. So he went back down the stairs and decided to not say anything. But something caught his eye.  There was a note on the table.  He went up to it to read it.

Shinichi took a breath to calm himself down. He brought out his phone and took a few pictures, both of the note and his surroundings.  He calmly went up the stairs and went to Hattori, almost forgetting what had happened moments prior.

"Hattori, get up.  There's a note for us." His voice was stern, and thus the other detective knew, this was not the time nor the place to run away. He immediately got up and gave a questioning look.

"A note?" Shinichi signaled him to follow and rushed down the stairs, the other following.  He walked up to the piece of paper and read it out loud.

"Dear Detective,

I hope you haven't forgotten me? Sure you exposed me years ago and put me to jail, but now that I'm out, can you truly stop me? I left you a clue and with that, the game commences. *Catch me?"

As if on cue, they heard glass shattering. They both ran to the direction of the sound, which was the window in the room to the right of the front door. They saw a piece of paper wrapped around a rock inside the room.
They called the police.

Inspector Megure was confused.  So there was a break in, of course since the note had to have been placed there somehow, but no signs of a break in.  How was that possible?

Now hours before, they read the paper that was wrapped around a rock to shatter the window in a room.  They were coordinates which lead to a park that was under construction. Inside one of the domes that was a part of the park, was a dead body.

Shinichi and Hattori both go to inspect the body, took notes, and let the police do their part. Inspector Megure questioned the two.

"So there's this note," he noted.  "And it's from someone Shinichi might have arrested?" Hattori shrugged.

"It could have also been for me.  See how it doesn't specify who the detective is?  Especially since Kudo and I have been solving cases together now, and even before, we were both fairly close," he paused to think.  "But the likelihood of it being Kudo has to be pretty high.  The house is under his name, he's from around here, and it says in the note that it has been quite some time since their arrest. I only started to live in the area for a year and a half, and in the house for a few months," he explained.

"But," Shinichi interjected.  "What bothers me is that everything is written in English except this last bit."

"And the fact that the body had a hole in his stomach..." Hattori simply thought about it and kind of, well, internally suffered. His brain wasn't fully functioning, but it was working.
