Jealousy

"Hey, what was that all about?"  Hattori pulled the detective to the side, trapping him against the coffee table so that he wouldn't run away.

"What are you talking about?" Kudo sighed, tired.  The case they just had was rather draining.  Fun, but draining.

"You know, with Kuroba.  You guys seemed pretty close," he was careful with his tone, yet his facial features showed otherwise.

"And?" The boy raised an eyebrow.  "We just met, we're friends, what does it matter?" Hattori held his breath before he backed away.

"Nothing."  He hadn't confessed yet.  He planned on it, but figured it would've been best if he kept quiet.  At first he thought it was too obvious that he had some amount of feelings, but turns out the detective was rather dense.

How funny.

Shinichi grabbed his cup of coffee and simply stared, confused.  "Okay? Um, do you want some coffee?" The boy asked as he poured a cup and some sugar. Hattori waved his hand as he shook his head no.

"Nah, I'm good.  I'm gonna take a nap instead.  Wake me up in half an hour!" He shouted from across the house as his voice became more faint.  The boy sighed as he took a sip. His faced scrunched up in a form of disgust, showing visible regret.

"Ah, it's too sweet."

Class ended and Hakuba had called them.

"Wanna hang out again? Lunch was cut short last time."

"Hakuba's asking if we should hang out again," Kudo reiterated. Hattori hesitated, but wanted to know what was up with the magician and the detective.

"Sure, why not?" Kudo, oblivious to the plan, simply went back to his phone call and responded.

"Yup, Hattori's down." Kudo then smiled before he hung up and put his phone away. "Apparently Kuroba has been excited to show us a new trick he learned," he looked up at Hattori. "It's pretty interesting huh? Magic," the boy spoke almost sarcastically, his smile still imprinted on his face. He was never the biggest fan of magic tricks, in fact, neither of them were. Yet despite this they both enjoyed breaking up each trick and figuring them out.

The Osaka detective on the other hand, frowned. The other noticed and mirrored his expression.

"What's wrong?" The boy simply shook his head before faking a grin.

"Nah, just remembering how you figured out the case before me. You know how I am. I just want the glory to myself sometimes," he struck a dramatic pose before chuckling, staring back at the detective, thinking some thoughts he secretly hoped would come true.

Kudo glared at him before teasing him, clearly unaware of his stare. "Hehe, no need to be so salty. You know, there's always next time!" He nudged his back. "Let's hurry! We're gonna be late!"

"So, that's it! Are you surprised?" Kuroba put his hands up to show that he had nothing attached to his hands, behind his hands, nor on his sleeves. The two detectives looked at each other as if to confirm something before they looked back with a mischievous grin.

"We figured it out!" They spoke at the same time. Kuroba kept his smirk as he stared at them, a face that requested an explanation.

Shinichi spoke first, then Hattori followed. They excitedly explained each step, their hands following what they were saying despite no card in hand. The two finished explaining before looking at each other with a bright smile on their faces.

"So?" They turned to Kuroba. "Did we get it?" The magician had the same face before turning to Hakuba.

"What on earth are they?" His poker face then dropped. "There's no way these two are human." Shinichi gleamed with joy as he raised his hand to high five the other detective. Hattori reciprocated the response. Hakuba simply shrugged as he took a sip of his coffee.
