At around 9 in the morning I decided I should turn the computer off and try to get some sleep. Karl went to bed 2 hours after I started playing but I was determined to rank up. I had been diamond 3 forever. My hands were cramping and the game was getting super frustrating at this point. And with only 4 hours until the new act, I needed to play constantly if I wanted to reach immortal. I played several matches and did aim labs in between but nothing seemed to work.

I decided it would be my last match around 8am. I decided to play Phoenix this time instead of Omen. I queued up the song Phoenix on spotify and turned it to full volume. The match actually started to go well. Final match score was 13-7 favoring us. I had gotten a decent amount of kills and was feeling good despite the lack of sleep I had. After the match I went to the loading screen and something popped up.

"Congrats you've ranked up"
"Immortal 1"

I screamed so loud. So loud the entire neighborhood could probably hear me, so loud Karl ran into the room wondering if I was okay.

"What in the hell are you screaming for?" Karl gave me an annoyed look.

"I RANKED UP TO IMMORTAL!!!!"

I thought I was going to cry. I was so happy. I quickly took a screenshot and posted it on twitter. Then turned off the computer, ran over to Karl and jumped on top of him.

I think Karl secretly has a soft spot for me so he didn't seem too angry that I woke him up over a video game rank.

Karl looked at me and made a funny face.

"What?"

"You look exhausted Melanie, please get some sleep."

Karl is one of those people who actually knows what's best for you. He knew I hadn't slept in so long.
He ended up dragging me to the guest room, threw me on the bed and turned the lights off.

"Goodnight."

"I think you mean good morning." I laughed.

Karl shut the door and left me to be alone.

The "next morning" (really it was just 6pm that same day) I woke up. Feeling slightly groggy I walked to the kitchen and made myself coffee. I could hear Karl screaming from his stream room. I checked twitch but he wasn't live. Maybe he was recording something. Who knows. I texted him that I was awake and got dressed for the gym.

I really liked working out. Especially when swim season was over because I could actually do heavy weight training and different kinds of workouts that usually would make me sore for swim meets. I spent roughly 2 hours at the gym and was extremely hungry when I returned back to Karl's house. Except this time when I got home Karl was in the kitchen talking to his phone.

"Hey Karl i'm back."

"Omg hey Melanie come say hi to my friend. He's streaming by the way so be nice."

Karl gave me the 'don't say anything stupid because thousands of people will hear it.' kind of look and I nodded to indicate I understood.

I was really nervous though, I thought Karl knew not to put me on the spot like this. I could feel my breathing quicken and my hands start to tremble. I gave Karl a worried look and scurried to my room. A few minutes later Karl came back without his phone and talked to me. He apologized for putting me on the spot. He explained how he was just excited for me to meet his online friends.

After 5 minutes of convincing I finally went back to the kitchen and mentally prepared myself to be social. Jesus how pathetic is that. I cant even talk to someone over the phone without freaking out. And here I am getting into my head again.
