XV - What are we?

Nick stood dangerously close to me as I mustered up the strength to speak my mind.

"Sooo what's up?" Nick smiled looking me up and down.

"Oh don't get any ideas dumbass"

Nick frowned.

"Well I guess I'm just confused as to what is going on. You know. Between us."  I stared at the flood as I spoke.

"What do you mean? Between us?" Nick put a finger underneath my chin and lifted my face to meet eye contact with him.

"That. Exactly that. I think we are both aware of the tension between the two of us and I think it needs to stop" I was picking at my fingernails so badly.

"If the feeling it mutual than why does it need to stop." He asked seriously.

"We'll. I. I don't.."

Before I could finish my sentence Nick gently pulled my waist towards him and kissed me softly on the lips. I put my hand around the back of his neck and kissed him back.

After realizing what just happened I pulled away and smacked him.

"NICK!"

"You kissed me back Melanie. Don't act like you haven't been dying to do that since we met."

"I, i, I don't know what to say. I don't know what I want and I don't want either of us to get hurt."

"Because of foolish?" Nick asked defensively.

"Yes, because of Noah" I snapped back.

"Listen melanie. I like you and I'm gonna do whatever makes you happy. But I know for a damn fact you enjoyed that kiss."

My cuticles were bleeding and my hands trembling uncontrollably at this point.

I really didn't know what I wanted. I did have interest in Nick. But was it just physical attraction? Noah and I are just friends right? I don't want to blow my chances with Nick for a guy I've never even met.

"Melanie?"

"Yeah sorry I don't know what to say."

"Well when you figure it out let me know darlin' alright?" He kissed my forehead and left the bathroom.

I immediately slammed the door shut and fell to the ground. The tears came instantly. What had I gotten myself into?

I figured Karl would be looking for me so I pulled myself together, washed my hands and put fresh bandaids on. Hoping my glasses would hide my red watery eyes I left the bathroom and walked to the living room.

"Hey kid you hungry..." Karl's words drowned out as his eyes moved from my eyes to my hands.

I gave him a panicked look and shook my head.

"I'm fine thanks though."

"Mel you haven't eaten since noon please let me cook you something." He insisted worried.

"Okay" I mumbled.

"We'll talk later okay?" He whispered as he walked past me to the fridge.

I nodded.

Karl made me a turkey sandwich and I ate it in silence as they watched Cartoon Network.

"Hey Karl are we still streaming tonight?"

"Yeah mario kart stream right?"

"Fuck yeah. What time?"

"Hmm maybe like 9?"

I checked my phone. It was 8:45. I spun around in my chair and stared at the boys.

"So who was going to tell me we were streaming tonight?"

"Karl you didn't tell her?"

"I swear I did."

"Mhhh nope." I spun back around and took another bite of my sandwich.

"I'm gonna shower before stream."  Nick stood up and walked to the bathroom giving me a soft smile as he passed.

I got butterflies in my stomach. Then lost my appetite. I got up and began walking to my room when Karl ran over to me.

"Hey what's going on?"

"Nick kissed me." I blurted out.

"WHAT"

"And then we were in the bathroom talking about what was going on between the two of us and I'm just so confused Karl and I don't know what I want because I like nick. And I kinda like him a lot. But I also like Noah. And I don't want to get caught up with your friends and create drama. And also-"

"Mel slow down. It's going to be fine. Listen, they are your friends now too okay? And if you like one.. or two of them then so be it. You cant help how you feel it's okay." Karl hugged me tight.

"Thank you"

"Of course just be smart please"

"I will Karl I promise. No one will get hurt."

"Yeah and use protection too please." Karl burst out laughing.

"EW KARL WHAT THE HELL."

He ran away before I could say anything else.

"What are you two yelling out here for?"  Nick walked out of the bathroom with just a towel around his waist.

Embarrassingly, I just stood there and gawked at him.

"Close your mouth melanie you'll catch flies" Karl ran past me and giggled.

I walked over to Nick and kissed him on the cheek. "Oh nothing don't worry about it."
