~~~~~"You can run, but you can't hide, Mavis dear." Airachnid's sickly sweet voice ran out through the forest.
A young femme was breathing heavily as she ran through the forest. Her peacock feather-like appendages swayed behind her as she ran. One of her wings was hanging, dangling at a painfully odd angle. Mavis risked glancing behind her to see how close Airachnid was to her, not noticing the large log in front of her causing her to trip with a yelp. As the femme pushed herself back up, Airachnid caught up and pinned her back down.
The Decepticon above her chuckled, a sickly sound to Mavis as she tried her best to glare up at the spider con. The peacock bot struggled underneath Airachnid in a vain attempt to escape.
"Mavis dear, you should watch where you're going when you're running." Airachnid mocked with a dark smirk, raising one of her leg-like appendages. "Don't worry though, I'll make this as painless as possible."
Mavis closed her optics tightly, waiting in fear and anticipation of her life ending. Right as Airachnid started to lower her leg to offline Mavis, she let out a pained shout as she was shot off the peacock femme. The girl opened her optics again once she heard another set of pedes; lighter, quieter, and definitely not from Airachnid. A slimmer, blue, and pink femme jumped over Mavis and stood between her and Airachnid, her two blasters out and aimed at the Decepticon femme. Airachnid growled in annoyance and stood back up.
"Arcee. So glad you can join us." Airachnid said in her sickly, venomous voice as she watched the two-wheeler in front of her. "You can join my friend here and die with her."
Arcee didn't look away from Airachnid, keeping her blasters aimed at the femme. Mavis slowly pushed herself up and moved behind Arcee, seeing she was about the same height as her.
"Your plan is over, Airachnid." Arcee growled, her glare hardening. "You'll be the one who is going to offline. Here and now."
The Decepticon smirked sickly as she stood up fully. "Arcee, dear, we've been down this path before. It never ends well for you."
The Autobot two-wheeler's gaze seemed to soften slightly as a distant look in her optics for a split moment before glaring at Airachnid again. Without saying another word, she began firing at the spider Con. Airachnid cried out as she fell back from the impact of the shot hitting her. She glared at the blue and pink femme before the sound of a ground bridge opening up caught her attention, watching more Autobots coming through.
"We'll finish this one day, dear Arcee." Airachnid said in a taunting voice before transforming and flying away.
Arcee watched the Decepticon femme leave before looking at Mavis, who was watching her quietly in return. The winged femme tensed slightly as Arcee cautiously walked towards her.
"It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you." Arcee said quietly, watching Mavis. "What's your designation?"
It took Mavis a moment to answer, debating on whether or not she could trust Arcee or not. "Mavis."
Arcee nodded slowly. "Come on. Let's get back to base so Ratchet can fix that wing of yours."
"Ratchet?" She asked quietly, watching Arcee closely. "Is he like a medic or something?"
"Yes. He's the Autobot's medic." Arcee said, starting to lead the way towards the ground bridge where everyone else was waiting.
Mavis faltered when she noticed the group of bots talking quietly to each other. Arcee glanced back at the other femme and slowed down.
"They won't hurt you. They'll make sure you stay safe." Arcee promised, leading Mavis through the ground bridge and inside the Autobot base.
Mavis hesitated as she watched everyone inside warily, keeping her distance from everyone. She watched as Arcee walked over to the orange and white mech that had turned the ground bridge off when they walked in, immediately assuming that was Ratchet. The peacock femme stayed against the wall in an attempt to stay out of view before Arcee led Ratchet over to her.
"Mavis, I presume?" The mech asked, watching the young femme calmly. "Arcee told me you are injured."
Mavis could only nod, not trusting her voice. Ratchet motioned for her to follow him as he walked over to a berth. Mavis glanced at Arcee, getting a reassuring nod from the femme. Taking a deep vent, the colorful femme slowly walked after the medic, hesitantly sitting on the berth as he took a look at her wing. Within no time, Ratchet had her wing fixed and functioning properly.
Across the silo, Arcee watched Mavis quietly as she leaned against the wall with her arms crossed. She watched as Ratchet left Mavis alone, the said femme hugging herself as she looked around nervously. The two-wheeler didn't notice Bumblebee walking up to her before she heard him speak.
::Something wrong, Arcee?:: Bee communicated through beeps and whirrs.
"No, I'm fine. Just watching the newcomer." Arcee grumbled, looking at Bee. "Why do you ask?"
::You're watching her like something will happen.:: Bee beeped.
"I just... There's something about her: something different." Arcee mumbled before pushing against the wall to stand up straight, walking over to Mavis.
The said femme looked up at Arcee before looking away again, as the blue femme stopped in front of her.
"You want to talk about whatever's going through your processor?" Arcee asked quietly. "I can open up as well if it'll make you feel more comfortable."
"You really want to listen to my problems?" Mavis whispered in surprise, looking up at Arcee again.
"We're a team now. We help each other out." Arcee said with a nod, smiling faintly.
Mavis couldn't help but return the smile and moved over a bit so Arcee could sit next to her. She watched the blue femme for a moment as she stared at her servos in her lap.
"I've lost a couple partners from this Primus forsaken war, almost three." Arcee began quietly. "I lost Tailgate to Airachnid, Cliffjumper to the 'Cons, and almost nearly lost Jack to Airachnid. So whatever you're going through, I'll help the best I can."
Mavis' spark broke when she listened to Arcee speak, watching the femme become vulnerable. Hesitantly, she wrapped her arm around the two-wheeler before looking down at her lap.
"My parental units... they tried to sell me because I was different. I wasn't like the other sparklings they hoped I'd be." Mavis spoke softly, closing her optics. "I never understood why they would do that, but I never thought I'd ever find someone to trust again."
Arcee looked at Mavis before holding her close, almost protectively. "You can trust us, and you can always trust me."
Mavis smiled faintly and hugged Arcee tightly, closing her optics. For the first time in forever, she finally found others to trust. But most importantly, she found others who she can call family. From that time forward, Arcee and Mavis were glued at the hip: always together. At night, Arcee would let Mavis sleep with her in her room when she had nightmares, trying to give her as much comfort and support to get over her trauma. No matter how long it took, Arcee wasn't going to give up on her. Never
