May and Coulson had been dating for a few months.
They also slept together as often as possible in only one of their two rooms.

Things went haywire on the mission and May loses sight of Coulson, Hydra Agent's ambush, and suddenly a silent scream.
Blood running cold in her veins, she searched for the person who belonged to the scream and before she knew what her legs were doing, she was running to his side.

"Melinda.. why weren't you there for me?"

He woke up at around 5 a.m. and immediately realized why.
And it broke his heart.

"When are you going to get help May?"

She nodded silently, took her gray cuddly blanket with the black shield logo on it and took Phil's hand. While she was only wearing short shorts and a top.

Coulson made himself some coffee and may have some vanilla tea, because green tea would wake you up too much.

In passing, Coulson kissed her forehead and the top of her head.

"How can I not be so incredibly lucky to have you as my partner mhhm? Lin?"
Phil gently raised her chin with index and middle fingers so that he looked straight into her eyes and his, but the sparkle in her eyes was missing once again.

"I didn't deserve to have you as such an over caring partner"
But before he could say anything, she put her index finger to his lips and whispered for no particular reason. Just because it was sexier, "Who has a relationship with their boss?"

"Come on you know that everything is far more complicated with us"

He wanted to kiss her but she pulled her face back a bit
"Bah coffee"

"Yes yes yes we have known each other since we were young and blah blah"

She made a declining motion with her hand.

When she had put down her empty tea, he pulled her into his arms.

"I can still see through your hard shell. Come on I know something to cheer you up"
