Chapter Twenty Six

*Hunter*

"Zayn!" Little feet pad against the carpet as hazel eyes flick behind me.

"Hi munchkin." Lillian is surrounded by strong arms.

"Are you staying for dinner?" Her arms are clasped around his neck as I sit on my bed and pick at the fraying edges of my blanket.

"If you want me to." Her hair falls over her eyes as she nods her head frantically. His eyes meet mine as a dopey grin pulls on his lips, "But you have to ask your sister first." The ninety pound nine year old releases her iron grip on the black haired boy's neck and dives onto my lap.

"Please Hunter." Her eyes are wide as she pleads, "Please, please-,"

"Fine fuck."

"That is a bad word!" She scolds, lips pouted. I roll my eyes at her and watch as Zayn tries to fight a laugh.

"He'll stay, that's enough."

Her smile is big, the kind that makes crinkles show in the corners by her eyes and her teeth show. She likes him, likes how he calls her munchkin and treats her like the baby she is. She is untouched by the evils in this world and I'll do anything in my power to protect her from them a little longer.

Hazel eyes go wide as the little girl with a big smile and crinkles by her eyes jumps onto him, clinging to his torso.

"Down monkey." I laugh, standing from my bed and reaching out to detach her, "Go ask mamma when dinner will be ready." There's a small thump as she drops to the floor.

"But why-,"

"Lillian go." She grumbles a bit before leaving the room and the silence that engulfs it.

"She's adorable."

"She's spoiled." I scoff as I collapse on the bed, arm slung over my face to shield my eyes from the light. My head is pounding and my chest rises and falls slowly.

"She's innocent Hunter." The bed dips beside me as he leans back on his elbow and looks at me with the 'you know I'm right' look that I have a love hate relationship with.

"Yeah, she is." My chest deflates in a sigh, "Are you going to that party- or whatever is happening at Tristen's? Everyone was talking about it."

"I am, I didn't think you'd be going actually."

"Alexis is dragging me there." I groan.

"My sister is a bit of a handful isn't she?" His statement is playful but we both know that it holds truth. His large body lays down next to mine and he's so close. I can smell his cologne and I can see the golden rim around his pupils. He has that look. The one where you just want to tell him everything because there's no way in the world that look could disappear. You just want to let it out to someone.

"Zayn, I..." I swallow my confessions, restrain them with doubts and tuck them back in their cages, "Can you give me a ride to- to Tristen's? Alexis offered but she likes to dress me up before hand and I don't think I can deal with that tonight."

"Yeah." He laughs and reaches up to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear and drag his fingers down my jaw, "Your face is too pretty for her to paint one over it anyway."

He's so close. He's so close and I can feel the heat from his body and smell the smoke off his lips. I can see the edges of the Nirvana logo on his shirt peeling from excessive use

"You have an eyelash right-," He cups my cheek and runs his thumb over my skin, "Make a wish."

I giggle and shake my head before my protests are swallowed down his throat, lips pressing to mine and tongues tangling. It isn't the first kiss. We done it before. But his lips on mine have my heart beating out of my chest and my own lips tingling until their numb.
