Chapter Four

*Hunter*

The burning end of the blunt flares before the familiar taste of hemp fills my mouth and filters down my throat. Smoke blowing through my lips in a series of O's.

"You are really quite good at that Hunter." Niall comments next to me as I lean back into the cushions on the couch with the joint still between my teeth. The place has cleared out. Calvin and Alee retreating back to the sheets, Amara and Bradley disappearing to god knows where to do god knows what with god knows who. I myself staying in a smoke filled bubble sandwiched between a smashed Irishman and a sky high brit with now bloodshot blue eyes.

"Thanks." I mutter as I take another puff, my eyes nearly watering form the smoke filling the room, "You can blow smoke rings can't you Niall?" I ask blinking slowly.

"No, but he can blow-,"

"Shut it Louis." I laugh covering his mouth with my hand, "I mean it- shush."

"Yes I can blow smoke rings." He says shaking his head at Louis as he reaches behind me to hit him upside the head.

"Good only the best can." I look beside me at the fuming boy whose mouth I still have shut tight under my hand.

"Hey!" His voice is muffled and nearly unrecognizable.

"Well boys." I start, pressing my hands on their knees to lift myself up, "I should get some sleep, I'm trashed and have," deep breath, "Work tomorrow so night."

"Night." They mimic in unison.

I enclose myself in the darkness of my room and barely make it to my bed before collapsing. My head crushed into my pillow, my eyes flicking over the light streaming through the window.

A city that never sleeps and the lights that grace that theory pour into my bedroom.

"She's gonna regret this Reina." I hear a voice outside the door.

"Niall she wanted this and she can handle her boss, she's a strong girl you know that." Their words are faint but I can still hear them.

"She's not this strong." Pause, "She's scared. She doesn't want to admit it but she's scared. She's scared all the time."

"You think I don't know that? I live with her, I hear her cry at night. I hear her call his name- like- like he's coming back. Like he wasn't horrible to her. Like she didn't escape him when he left. That-."

I can't listen to anymore. I bring my hands to my ears and press down on my flesh, eliminating the sound. Tears roll down my cheeks and from the angle I'm laying they spill over the bridge of my nose and onto my pillow.

Two strong hands wrap around me and pull me to a solid chest.

My chest aches for a minute as phantom reminders of... him... roll through my etcha-sketch mind.

"Shhh It's Niall you're gonna be okay Hunter, you always are." Niall whispers as he holds me, "Sleep."

"Niall I'm so scared I can't prove them wrong."

"Sleep."

"And I have this trip next month to visit home and I'm scared to go home because it's not home anymore."

"Sleep Hunter."

"And my mind is a mess, all I can think about is green eyes and Niall they're starting to replace brown eyes. They're actually starting to replace them because they're so alike and it's scaring me."

"Sleep, please Hunter, you just need to sleep and everything will be better." He squeezes my side with the hand draped over me.

"Sorry." I mutter into the darkness, infected with the city that never sleeps.
