Chapter Eight*Hunter*
My keys clink against the lock as I push into the apartment, expecting an empty place with no sound except the sound of the tap hitting the sink and an occasional siren from the city outside. Perfect.
Just to spite the dark, cold, empty apartment I start singing 'All by Myself' abnormally annoying, at the top of me lungs as I step into the space, closing my eyes and really getting into it.
"Hunter?" I hear Reina say and immediately shut up, slowly peeling one eye open to see everyone sitting the usual formation in the living room.
I cough awkwardly as a blush coats my cheeks and everyone looks utterly shocked.
Loud clapping fills the space and all of us turn to a grinning Louis who just smiles while I send him my best death glare.
"Y-you're home?" I ask pursing my lips.
They all nod.
"And you heard that?" I squeak motioning behind me to my previous actions.
They all nod again.
A sigh rakes my body before I throw my head back staring to sing loudly again, walking to my room and throwing my bag off into the corner, not bother to wait around to gauge their reactions.
I strip down to my underwear and pull on a loose sweater and those old black leggings with the- quite unintentional- rips in the knees and the fraying bottom seam on the right leg.
I burst back into the room with my phone in my hand and sit down, sandwiched in between Louis and Niall on the couch as usual.
"That was quite the performance." Niall comments as he hands me a lit joint.
"I try, I try." I take a puff on the end and blow out the smoke smoothly before dangling it between my fingers and checking the buzzing phone in my hand.
I groan as I see who the caller is.
"I'll take that off your hands." Louis says grabbing the blunt.
"Who is it?" Reina asks, "Mother dearest?"
"You guessed it." I grumble, standing from my spot and walking to the kitchen.
The phone just buzzes and buzzes in my hand before I have the nerve to actually answer. But one click of the accept call button and my night is ruined so it needed some build up.
"Hello?" I press the phone to my ear.
"Hunter sweetheart we need to get the tickets for your trip." My mother coos over the line in her worn out voice. When I was around fifteen and it was this time I would curl up on the couch with her and lay my head on her shoulder as she stroked my back. But things change and time passes and my mother turns out to be more of a Lillian type of woman.
"Change of plans. I have to work the thirteenth." I say bluntly.
"Oh? You have a job?" She asks shocked. Of course she would be.
"Yes actually I do." I don't want to go into this.
"And what is that job?" She asks skeptically.
"Mother I have to go. Speak soon."
"Wait Hunt-," Click.
I rest against the counter for a moment before walking back into the living room and grabbing the joint from Louis.
