Chapter 14: Looking back PART 2

Perviously:

"What are you smirking at?" I said, looking at him suspiciously.

"You're making faces at the ceiling." He chuckled before lying down next to me. Jake kissed my temple before he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me against his body. "You feeling alright?" Jake asked me as I continued to look at the ceiling.

"Yeah I'm alright, just being thinking." I replied, turning and looking at Jake.

"About what huh?" he asked, propping himself up on his elbow and kissed my nose quickly. I giggled slightly at the gesture.

"The last time I saw my mother."

"Mmm... do you want me to come?"

"Yes please."

Jake took my hand and I snuggled in close to him.

"Ready?" he asked and I nodded in response.

I shut my eyes and in front of me appeared folders and each one had a year labelled on it. My mind was set out like a computer, click on a folder and more folders appear with months on it and within those are folders with dates on them. There was a search bar at the top and I mentally clicked on it before typing in the last time I saw my mother.

There were a number of different videos that appeared with various dates but the first one was the one I was looking for. It was labelled as "Carla's death - 1999". The room quickly dissolved and the memory began.

I was standing behind a couch in a small room, next to Jake. In front of the couch was a small wooden table that was around a metre long. The carpet was a cream colour and there was a clean white rug placed underneath the table. The walls were a pale yellow colour that looked good and went well with the rest of the furniture in the house.

On the small table there were drawings and pictures splayed out everywhere with some on the floor as well. In the middle of the table, on the opposite side, was a little girl with her head down, working on a new picture. She was slightly tanned with jet black hair that went down to her waist. I knew who that girl was. She was only five years old and it was me. This was the night my mother died.

Off to the right there was a hallway and I heard a woman talking to herself. She walked out into view and looked down at the girl who had her back to her mother. The woman smiled softly but there was fear and sadness in her eyes.

"How do I look Victoria?" the woman spoke finally.

The little girl spun around and pouted at her mother. "I don't like being called Victoria mum. But you look good."

The woman was wearing tight black jeans with a belt and a sliver gun strapped to her back, out of sight from the child. She wore a black long-sleeved shirt with black heels that strap tightly around her ankles. The woman had black hair just like her daughter's but it was short and clipped back out of her face.

The little girl got up from the ground and ran to her mother, hugging her. The mother beamed but it didn't seem to reach her eyes. They were still filled with the same sadness and fear as before.

"I love you Vicky." The woman said looking down at the girl.

"I love you mummy!" the little girl said excitedly.

I moved from behind the couch and stood next to the table where the girl was drawing before. I watched in silence as the two hugged and then felt Jake's arms wrap around my waist from behind.
