Chapter 10: The Family Secret

I was getting ready to go over to Jake’s room because he wanted me to stay over his place tonight. I didn’t object because I wanted to sleep in the same bed as Jake and it didn’t matter where that was to me.

Just as I was about to walk out the door and across the hall to Jake’s room, I stopped as a human had walked past my door with Tom.

I waited until Tom went into his room before I exited my room. I was curious as to who the human was so I quickly got up and left my room very cautiously. I walked down the hall on my tip-toes, trying my hardest not to make a sound.

I reached the door and realised who the human was. It was someone I knew but I completely forgot what her name was. I knew I could barge in there and complain that Tom didn’t tell me that a human was here to see me because I can’t even remember their name and that would just make it awkward.

I stood there for a few minutes thinking on what the person’s name was and then it hit. I felt terrible for forgetting their name and silently whispered it to myself before opening Tom’s door and walking in; slamming it shut behind me.

There seemed to be tension in the air as I walked into the room but it quickly sub-sided the further I came into the room. I felt a little awkward at first and thought I had down the wrong thing but I tried to ignore that feeling.

I walked past the human and winked at her. I kept walking until I was a few meters away from Tom who was standing behind his desk.

“Tom,” I breathed out.

“Vicky,” he said nodding his head in return.

“Are you scaring the day class students again?” I smirked at Tom before continuing, “Tom, if there is a day class student here for me requiring my presents, I would appreciate it if you would tell me straight away then leave us alone.”

Tom nodded before letting me go with the human. “Don’t kill her.” Tom called as I walked off with the human trailing behind me like a lost puppy.

“I wasn’t planning on it.” I said back and walked out, leaving the human to close the door for me.

I let the human walk into my room first before I walked in, closed the door then hurried to close the curtains before the sun hit them. I smirked as I saw the sun hit the curtains just as I closed them.

“So Montanna, why did you want to see me?” I asked turning around to see the human sitting on my bed with her head down.

“I wanted to ask you a favour.” She replied without looking up.

“Depending on what it is depends on whether I do it or not. What is it?” I asked leaning on my bedside table, watching Montanna closely.

“Can you change me?” she asked finally looking up. She had tears in her eyes threatening to fall but she held them back. I didn’t want to question her about the tears so I left it. “Vicky, what’s it like to be a vampire?”

“I don’t know to be honest,” I said.

“What?” she questioned then got mad, “of course you know! You are a vampire so tell me what it’s like!”

“Whoa, no yelling please, you’ll wake up the entire building and have hundreds of vampires after you so keep it down.” I told her in a firm voice before continuing. “I know I am a vampire but I’m different, I’m…cursed I guess you could say. I can’t die as easily as any other vampire. Anyway, to answer your question, I guess it’s the same as being a human but you don’t grow old and die or get sick and die. You die in different ways. You also have a different diet. Instead of food its blood; you can still eat food but it’s tasteless and some vampires get badly ill when they eat human food. It’s really up to you if you choose to eat human food or not; most vampires tend to not try it as fear of becoming sick and possible death could occur but that’s rare, something vampires don’t understand. Why are you asking me this? Why do you want to become one of us?”
