Chapter 13: Falling... Failing PART 2
Previously:
The next night came and I had got quite a few hours of sleep throughout the day. Everyone had gone to class except Jake who had gone to get something so I was on my own for about five minutes. I wanted to see what was in the cupboards diagonal from where I was sitting, so I very quickly got up and sat down on a chair in front of the cupboards.
I don’t know why I hesitated before opening them. It was as if I knew what to expect or I just had a feeling it wasn’t good but I hadn’t expected anything like what I saw.
****************************
There were tiny glass bottles containing a type of liquid in each one with a label on each one.
Blood. One word that means a lot to every creature on earth. That was what was in each little glass bottle, blood. The look of blood didn’t affect me but the fact that there were bottles of blood in the cupboards shocked me.
After the feeling of shock subsided, I looked at each tiny bottle. They had labels on them that contained a name, a date and a few letters in beautiful old hand writing. I looked through all of them quickly and soon realised that each one contained blood of everyone in the school plus a few others – teachers I was guessing.
I froze at the sight of one. The thing was that it wasn’t mine I froze at. Carla was one name I would never forget no matter what happened. She was my mother. Died in 1999 when I was five years old right in front of my eyes. The human died when I was human as well.
On the bottle with her name on it were two letters, an H and D meaning human and dead. I pushed the small bottle aside and kept looking quiet through all the other bottles. As I was quickly looking through them I spotted my name, three times. I stopped to have a better look at them. One had the letters H and D and the date was 1994, the year I was born, another had V and the year 2010, the year I changed, and the last one had a V and a P, 2012, this year.
I picked up the last little bottle, a little confused as to what the P meant. When I realised what it meant I heard Jake coming down the stairs. With the surprise of Jake’s footsteps, I dropped the tiny glass bottle. Jake was just about to save the glass by catching it but if he touched it, it would kill him. I pushed Jake back against the wall with as much strength as I could.
“Don’t touch it Jake! It’s poisoned.” I said and we watched the bottle smash in silence. That was the blood running through my veins at that very moment. My blood was poisoned and slowly killing me. “Jake?” I asked and felt my legs give way just as I lost my eye sight. My whole life felt like it was falling, failing.
I had my eyes shut tight and darkness overwhelmed me. I wanted Jake to stay with me and have him feel everything I was feeling; think everything I was thinking. “I’m right here baby,” I heard him say and he held my hand tightly. I felt him gently carry me over to my bed.
“Never leave me please Jake,” I said and felt a tear fall down my face.
“I’ll stay for eternity Vicky,” he kissed my tear away.
A little while later, Ruby, Tom and Kim joined us. Ruby and Tom quickly left because Ruby couldn’t handle the blood being there. Kim quickly cleaned up the blood.
