Episode 8

Yaowen sighed as he swung back on forth on the swing in the park. “I don’t know, Haoxiang is really annoying but I think I kinda started liking him. Then he just…dropped me.”

“Well you took too long to make a decision,” Chengxin answered him, sitting on the other swing. “What about you and Junlin? Didn’t you take him as your date to the awards?”

“Junlin?” Yaowen chuckled. “I mean I did take him but there’s nothing going on between me and Junlin. We’re just really good friends."

“I think you get along more with Junlin, it’s like there’s natural chemistry while you and Haoxiang…it seems forced. Like you weren’t meant to be.”

“I don’t know, I never really thought about dating Junlin.” Yaowen admitted. The thought of it was a bit awkward, but maybe Chengxin was right.

“Besides, didn’t you hear that Haoxiang may be moving on to Jackson Yee? Our fourth year senior.”

“Really?” Yaowen was a bit disappointed. “I don’t think I can even compete with Jackson Yee.”

Chengxin laughed and nodded. “You’re right about that, he’s something else. Wanna go for drinks at the smoothie bar? I’m kinda thirsty.”

“Yeah. That will be cool.”

Yaowen and Chengxin sat next to each other by the bar as they waited for their smoothies. Yaowen was busy checking the menu for flavors he’s never tried before, while Chengxin was looking around aimlessly. When he heard the door open and someone walk in, he turned around to notice Haoxiang.

“Oh no,” Chengxin said to himself, not wanting the two to meet. It seemed Yaowen would be disappointed if he saw Haoxiang who was now walking towards Jackson’s table. If Chengxin had seen Jackson in the smoothie bar before, he would have turned back and went to another smoothie bar with his friend.

“Hey Jackson I’m here,” Haoxiang announced.

“That sounds like a familiar voice,” Yaowen was about to turn around when Chengxin grabbed his head and turned him back to the front.

“I know, familiar voices are everywhere. Have you ever tried this smoothie? I heard it’s delicious.” Chengxin pointed at a smoothie on a menu.

“No actually.” Yaowen answered.

“Hey Haoxiang, I’ve been thinking,” Jackson started. “I know I said I really wanted to date you but…I’m kind of having second thoughts. My friends told me you had a thing with Yaowen? And it may not be completely over?”

“What!? Which friends!?”

Chengxin nervously looked in Yaowen’s direction, but he was relieved to see that Yaowen’s focus was now completely on his cell phone. He could hardly hear a thing and had drowned out all the voices.

“Hold on Chengxin, I need to hear this new song by Kai. It’s called Peaches.” Yaowen said as he placed his airpods in his ear.

“Yeah go ahead, in fact listen to his entire album. Heard it’s an album.” Chengxin encouraged, not wanting him to hear anything.

“Jackson they’re lying, there’s nothing going on between me and Yaowen…we never even dated.” Haoxiang answered.

“I don’t know. My friends wouldn’t really lie to me…I wouldn’t want to come in between you and Yaowen so how about you guys resolve your issues first?” he told him nervously and stood.

“Jackson no…” Haoxiang pleaded, but Jackson was already walking towards the door. Looking around helplessly, Haoxiang noticed Yaowen sitting with Chengxin. He was surprised he hadn’t seen them before.

“You!” Haoxiang shouted and walked towards Yaowen. He grabbed his jersey and pulled him off the stool. “This is all your fault!”

“Haoxiang no, wait,” Chengxin pleaded.

“How could you! Now Jackson doesn’t like me all because you wasted my time! How could you!” Haoxiang continued furiously.

Frightened and confused, Yaowen pushed Haoxiang away, making him fall flat on the floor. Yaowen then pulled off his airpods. “What’s going on!?” he asked in confusion.

“Hey did you just push me!?” Haoxiang asked he got up.

“Hey chill guys,” Chengxin pulled Yaowen.

“Haoxiang I think you need a break.”

“Haoxiang,” Jackson walked over to him. “Let’s go.”

Haoxiang looked at Jackson with a bit of embarrassment. “Oh, fine.”

“And you said there’s nothing going on between you two? Nice try.” Jackson said as he pulled Haoxiang.

“Hey they’re really together?” Yaowen asked Chengxin sadly.

“I don’t know.” Chengxin answered honestly. “But like I said, Junlin’s available.”
