Pulling up the collar of your shirt, you loosely tie a neckerchief around your neck, styling your collar back into place with it. Combing through your hair, you assure it was styled neatly to match your clean look for tonight. It was the night of Antonio Madrigal's gift ceremony.
The whole town was anticipating the outcome of tonight's ceremony, afraid it might be another catastrophe after the last one. Rumors were afloat and whispers frequent while the day of the event approached. Now it was finally here and everyone put on a cheery spirit to keep the hopes high.
You look into your mirror and nod in approval at you look for tonight. Your shirt is a long sleeve button-up, with loose puffy sleeves, that tighten around the wrists. Your neckerchief matches in a similar pattern to your top and compliments the color of your pants. It's overall a simple but fun look so you won't appear completely boring on an important night like this, but also don't stand out from the crowd.
Heading out your door, you close it behind you and begin to make your way to the casa de Madrigal.
You had lived here in the Encanto your entire life, knowing most of the people living there. This also meant you were very familiar with the Madrigal family. You weren't friends with them as much as just acquaintances that met often when out and about in town.
Thinking about all the gifts the family had, made you wonder what Antonio's gift may be. Unlike the rest of the townsfolk, you didn't think the last ceremony had cursed the family. Mirabel's ceremony was no doubt hard on her back then, even now being reminded of it so often, but you were sure all would work out for Antonio. Gift, or no gift.
Seeing kids waving sparklers and jumping aboard donkey carriages, really brought out the joyous spirit in you, making you smile. It was almost like music was playing around you, laughter and chatter drowning the crowd as everyone made their way up the hill to the center of the Encanto, to the grandiose magical home of the Madrigals.
Reaching the house, you could see the windows cheerfully waving in greeting, tiles and bricks jumping and clacking in melodic rhythms as people stepped inside.
The first Madrigal you met was Luisa, the middle child of Julieta and Agustín. A strong lass, lifting donkeys and people by the house, letting them head inside. Before the door was Camilo, also a middle child, the son of Pepa and Félix. Both of these people were friendly acquaintances of yours, so you headed over to Luisa, greeting her with a smile.
She returned the gesture and you both gave a quick side hug, sharing your 'take care's and 'see you later's, before you let her get back to her duties receiving guests.
Heading to the door, you were met with Camilo, who swiftly turned into an identical form of yourself, ready to greet you. You share a hug and a pat on the back, but before he turns back, you look him over, before striking a small pose.
"Wow, good choice on the outfit today, me." You arch a brow and fix your collar, making Camilo snicker before turning back.
You both wave your byes for the time being and you head inside. Waving to casita, you head in past the jumping tiles.
People are already enjoying their time, grilling, chatting, snacking and a couple kids were trying to sneak upstairs, but casita kept them at bay by sliding them down the stairs over and over.
A moment later, Luisa passes you by and you wave your hand and she tosses you a piece of one of the foods she was carrying. You snatch it out of the air and toss it into your mouth, enjoying the sweet flavor.
Your moment of savoring your treat was interrupted as you spotted a little boy drinking coffee on her shoulder, shaking from the caffeine.
You blink, before slowly looking away.
