(You get a crumb of looking nice at the end 🥸)

The next morning you got up bright and early to help Julieta make more arepas for breakfast after eating most of them with Camilo during the night.

You placed your crutches aside and leaned your waist against the counter for support as you helped massage the dough as she prepared the rest of the breakfast food. Your offer was greatly appreciated and meant a lot to her, which you found very wholesome.

She always got up early to make breakfast for the family, being the designated cook with her gift and well-honed skills, so you felt it must get a bit monotonous after a while.

You scoop the dough bit by bit into round patty shapes and Julieta places them to cook. Soft sizzle hissing from the heat.

Julieta tried to ask about Camilo lightly, but you just mentioned Camilo would come forward about whatever was going on on his own to someone. She understood, but thanked you for talking to the boy.

You asked how Julieta was doing and she shrugged, calm as always. She was just a bit tired after everything, is all. You advise her to take some time off and rest, to which she smiles.

Rest of the morning went well, with people coming to eat breakfast in a good mood, Camilo seemed to be putting on a cheerful face as usual. Agustín gave Julieta a kiss as everyone set the table with her.

The family decided to sit outside to enjoy the sunny day and Julieta helped you carry your plate over to the table with all the food. Camilo beat you to it and was placing plenty of food on his plate. Wasn't this his second plate?

You rolled your eyes and smacked him on the leg with your crutch, making him yelp and nearly drop his food.

You raise your brow at his offended expression. "Save some for the rest of us, jeez." Laughing, you put food on your plate and watch Camilo scurry off before he loses any of his food.

Everyone sat around the table with you between Isabela and Camilo, partially a part of the family conversations. Your stone hand on the table as you used the other to eat your food.

Mid conversation, you stare at your hand thoughtlessly, just moving your fingers, opening and closing your palm. It was strange. It didn't feel cold, nor did it hurt. It was just... Numb. But it moved smoothly like a normal hand would.

Isabela took notice of your hand in her field of vision and glanced over. "Feeling alright, Y/N?" Looking between you and your hand, you could tell she was concerned.

Swallowing your bite, you clear your throat and slide your hand under the table. "Mm- Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Just fiddling with the weird hand, you know." You shrug and tilt your head towards nothing.

Barely convinced, Isabela smiles and nods. For the rest of the breakfast though, she engaged in conversation mostly with you. She tried to avoid asking how you were feeling and instead go to literally any unrelated topic, but not much has happened since the major event so there wasn't much to go on about.

After breakfast, Julieta set you on rest duty, insisting you shouldn't worry about cleaning as you already helped prepare breakfast. You resisted, but a mother's word is law and you ended up sitting still at the steps leading up to then second floor.

You were often barefoot, as to keep an eye on your progress or if any step damaged you, but so far nothing bad had happened. It was strange walking with these legs. It felt like you had a cast going over your toes, entire foot and ankle all the way to the knee. Nothing would budge below the knee and your steps were janky.

You could technically walk without the crutches but it'd be slow and you have no balance control on your feet so falling over would be inevitable without the extra support. It did make things very very boring.
