"Ok, now that we got those out of the way, we need to focus on what we should do about the Jiangs." Lan Wangji jumped across the couch and landed beside Wei Wuxian. "Wow, are these your new songs?" He took the sheets of paper and started to read the lyrics and the melody. He was also adept in reading music notes since he was classically trained in piano and violin, not that he cared enough to practice, but sometimes he helped Wei Wuxian with synchronization.

"Yes, I put a violin piece in it, and I want you to play it with me." He spoke nonchalantly as if it was the most natural thing in the world. "And don't worry about the Jiangs, I've already taken a necessary measure against them, my lawyer will make sure of it. I won't be a pushover anymore, even though they are my family."

"Wh– are you serious?" Lan Wangji frowned. He was surprised with both of the statements, both about Wei Wuxian's new song–which included him on the piece, and the legal act against the Jiangs. He knew that Wei Wuxian had an unhealthy relationship with the Jiangs, as he still craved love from them, while they didn't give two shits about Wei Wuxian. But at least their snobbishness would be over soon. He heard that the Jiang's son, Jiang Cheng, walked around the town like he owned it, and he also made loans using Wei Wuxian's name. The daughter was even worse. She and her husband and son leached into Wei Wuxian like he was responsible for the.

Well, the lawyer should be able to handle them.

Right now, he was more concerned about the duet.

The last time he played violin was more than two years ago, when he practiced to play Carol of the Bells, because Wei Wuxian asked him to play for Christmas together for the orphanage. But he wanted to make Wei Wuxian happy, so he relented.

"You know, it's been like more than two years since the last time I played." Lan Wangji walked to the office where he kept his violin and took it out, then he started to tune it.

"Let's try an easy song, warm up a bit." Wei Wuxian walked to the piano and started to warm up his fingers before he played Part of Your World from Ariel, which Lan Wangji easily followed. He knew his obsession with Disney songs and with time, he came to like them too.

Both of them played the song like there was never any day of separation between them. They could read each other's movement, added improv when needed, and not even a note out of tune.

Then Wei Wuxian changed to the more jazzy and upbeat tune from the Princess and the Frog–When We're Human–
and Lan Wangji followed effortlessly.

It all came back to him now, the never-forgotten muscle memory. The love that he felt whenever they played together. And right there and then, he knew that nothing would ever come between them again. He would protect this man at all cost, and love him until the end of their life.

Jiang Cheng went back to the Jiang's family home, when he saw his mother was waiting for him in the living room with a glass of dark amber liquid in her hand. And he knew right away that there's a big problem.

He looked around to find his father but he was not around. Just like when he was never around ever since he was a child. The only time he saw him smile was when he's with Wei Wuxian, the child from his dead mistress that he insisted on bringing home.

Jiang Cheng tried to sneak out on his mother, when she called him with her very cold tone that stopped him in his tracks.

"Where are you going? Sit. We need to talk." She pointed at the chair in front of her and Jiang Cheng followed her order like a leashed puppy. His eyes darted everywhere except on his mother. He always was afraid of Madam Yu. She was the only child of a very rich, very famous aristocrat, and she demanded to be treated as the most important person in the world, even though there was nothing left here ever since their father botched a deal, and another, and another, because of his soft heart and his grief for his dead mistress, Wei Wuxian's mother. It's part of the reason why Wei Wuxian never said anything about how they took all his money. Besides, they were entitled to everything that Wei Wuxian owned. Didn't they give him shelter and food when nobody wanted him? Now it's his turn to repay all the debt.

"What now?" Jiang Cheng acted like he didn't care while he was secretly trembling inside. He noticed the crack on the wall, and on the granite floor. They would need to refresh their home soon, it started to fall apart without constant maintenance.

Madam Yu did not say anything else but threw a thick document on his face.

"Read it. It's from that ungrateful child's lawyer." She gulped the last of the liquid and put the glass on the table.

Jiang Cheng took the document and did speed reading on it. At first he didn't understand all the gibberish and fancy law terms on it, but when he saw Wei Wuxian's name, he reread the document carefully. Then the understanding dawned on him.

"He wants to take our houses and cars and everything?" He clenched the papers until they were almost torn.

"Every. Single. Thing." Madam Yu took out a cigarette from a slim gold case and lit it up with her gold lighter. She took a long drag and exhaled the smoke right at Jiang Cheng's face. "He ignored my calls, and Yanli's. Now you go and fix it. Sweet talk to him, threaten him, hell, beat him up if necessary." She stood up and flicked the ash to Jiang Cheng's direction. "And I don't want to hear any failure." She gave Jiang Cheng a thorough once over. "You have quite a nice body. Why don't you use it for something else other than fucking the little twink without getting anything in return? At least Wei Wuxian was smarter when he hooked Lan Wangji, instead of some…" she didn't finish her sentence, instead, she scoffed at him. Then she turned around and left him alone.

Fucking Wei Wuxian!

Jiang Cheng tore the papers and threw it all up, screaming in frustration.

Why couldn't anything go his way??
