Ty P.O.V

"Mom?" I shout from the upstairs bathroom

"Yeah" she shouts back

"Where is the Tylenol?" I say and I hear her run like a cheetah up the stairs.

"What?! What's wrong? Is it you head?Does it hurt?" She says frantically and out of breath in the doorway.

"Mom calm down" I say calmly and walk over to pat her shoulder

"Sorry" she says sadly pulling me in and hugs me tightly . I hug her back "I'm just worried"

" I know" I say still holding her

"Does your head hurt?" She asks sweetly letting go of me and going over to the medicine chest to look for Tylenol.

"Just a bit" I reply running my hands through my hair. I lie because I don't want to worry her anymore than she already is.

She finds the bottle and pops it open, hands me two little red pills and grabs the glass from the sink. She fills it with water and hands me the cup and pills "here you go" she says calmly before looking me right in the eyes and leaving the bathroom without another word. I know she is going to go cry her eyes out, so it's best if I leave her alone. I pop the pills into my mouth and drink the water before grabbing my backpack and heading to school. It's Monday, fun right?

When I arrive I head straight for Samara's locker. I haven't seen her all weekend and I just cant stop thinking about her. She isn't here yet so I put away my backpack grab my math books and close my locker.

"Hey" shouts Jillian

"Jeez!" I say jumping back and dropping my books when I see her and grab my head in pain "you scared me"

"Like, sorry" she says in her normal voice, but to me it's very irritating "anyway, I'm having a party, like if you want to come its this Friday,"

She hands me a price of paper with her address "Don't like, bring anyone, or do, I like, don't care." She finishes then winks at me, flips her hair off her shoulder and walks away. She checks twice to see if I am looking at her and I am. That skirt is way too short for school! Don't we have a dress code?

"Hey!" I turn around and see David "Was that Jillian? Did she talk about me?" His eyes widen.

"Yes," I say in a mocking voice "she wants you to purpose to her!" I say

"Not funny, dude speaking of marriage" he says as we walk to math together "my scene with her is the best! I get to kiss her!"

"Good for you" I say completely bored by the topic

"How about you and secret girl?" He says elbowing me and winking.

"Her name is Samara and it went fine" I lie to him. Truth is she's all I think about now.

"Just fine?" He asks not persuaded by my answer

"Yeah" I answer as I set my books down in my desk and he does the same.

"Whatever, hey what did Jillian want anyways," oh good we're back to Jillian again.

"She invited me to her party"

"Sweet! Pick me up at 9?"

"I don't think I'm going"

"Why not, this is Jillian Tessie's party we are talking about"

"And?"

"And" he pauses for a moment to find his point "and if you don't go I can't! Please Ty? Please?"

I take a second then reply with " fine I'll go!"

"Thank you! I owe you one" he says slapping me on the back.

"You owe me several and your welcome."

The bell rings and I look to see if Samara has shown up. There is no sign of her. I go through all of my morning classes without seeing Samara. I wonder if she is going to show up at all today. Maybe i scared her with my gay joke and shes avoiding me. All through lunch she's gone too. I find school really boring, but with her hone too its unbearable I finish lunch with David having our, or his, usual conversation about Jillian. I go into the hallway before he can say another word about her, and see Samara at her locker. I walk over and stand a few feet back. She must have seen me out of the corner of her eye because she stands up and looks straight at me.

I gasp in horror when I see her face. Just below her eye is a large cut that has a few stitches and her beautiful, soft lips have swollen twice the size they are.

"Samara! Oh my gosh! What happened?" I ask running over and grabbing her hand. She quickly lets go and falls to the ground. She puts her head in her knees and wraps her arms around them.

"Please, go away, don't look at me" she says as she starts crying.

I crouch down beside her "What happened, who did this?"

"My dad" she says in between sobs

I grab ahold of her hand and this time she holds back and tightly. I kiss the top of her head and we sit like this until the bell rings. "I can't go home" she says when she has finally stopped crying.

People are staring at us. I even see Jillian walk by going to English. She takes a long lingering look at our intertwined hands before storming off.

"Samara, what happened?" I ask again needing to know the truth.

"He called me a slut" she explains

"Your dad?" I ask and she nods "why?"

"Because I went to your house and didn't tell anyone. I deserved it!"

"Samara, that makes no sense"

"He's bad tempered, nothing he does makes sense" she explains

"When did this happen?"

"Sunday"

"Why didn't you call me or text me?"

"I didn't know I could"

"You can, okay?" And she sits there "okay?" I repeat louder and she nods again.

"Had this happened before" I ask and she nods once more " how many?"

" I lost count" she replies.

"Okay," I pause trying to stay calm"so what happened this time?"

"He said I was worthless and so I stormed out of the room, but he followed me" she starts crying again "he said that I should never walk away when he was talking to me" and he slapped me. His nail cut my cheek open and it burned like hell then he punched me in my lips. I could feel the blood running down my cheek. I walked to the hospital and lied to them. I said I fell down the stairs they knew I was lying"

she's crying pretty hard by now and the halls are empty. "I can't go home, Ty, can't! He will do it again! He says he won't but he always lies" and she starts crying into my shoulder.

"You don't have to go home Samara" I say and the bell rings.

"What?" She asks

"Come live with me"
