Samara's P.O.V
My heart is beating loudly in my ears. It's not mine. I just know its not mine. "Samara Kissinger,'' Mr. Davies says quietly. I let go of my breathe. I didn't realize I was holding it. ''Samara's poem was the best, and I would love to read it to you.'' What if no one likes it? Before I can panic about that, the fire alarm goes off. I get up from my seat, slowly. I'm still in shock that I won. I never win.
We exit the school in a hurry. Ty grabs my hand as we walk through the door out into the cold of November.
''Its probably just a drill'' Ty says as he tries to warm me up. ''If not, I won't miss this school." He laughs giving a quick look around. The school is so old the color of orange has faded off the bricks.
I laugh before saying, "maybe Jillian's still in there." Then she walks right out in front of me, and flips her hair in my face.
"It's too bad we, like couldn't hear your poem." She says turning to face me. She makes a mocking frowning face. "I guess we'll like, never know."
She leaves and stands by her group of friends. "I'm sure it's amazing." Ty says to comfort me.
"Thanks," I say and he kisses me softly on my lips. His arms are on mine, and I feel the warmth radiating from his body.
"Hey!" Kali says coming out of nowhere. "How's it going guys?" She says perkily. She is jumping up and down to keep warm. "Boy, it's cold out here, hey?"
"Yes," Ty says and I nod my head in agreement, but I am really warm.
"So, are you guys going to the dance? David and I are. I'm really excited!"
"I am too." David says coming through the crowd of people. His nose and eyes are bruised from me punching him.
"Uh, Kali, lets go talk about shoes or something." I say trying to give Ty and David space. I hate shoes though so this is quite the sacrifice, but he did stand up to my parents for me, and went to see me in the hospital. I guess the list is never ending.
Ty's P.O.V
Samara and Kali walk away. I stare at David unsure of what to do. "Look David-" I begin, but David cuts me off.
"No, Ty I am really sorry. I should have stood up for her, okay? I should have said something, but I didn't, and I regret that."
"Thanks," I say and half smile. "Friends?"
"Yeah," he says and tries to hug me.
"Uh," I say putting my hands up in defence. David starts laughing and gives me a 'fist bump.'
"Sorry I punched you." I say after a moment.
"It's cool, Kali says I look tough." He says with a little chuckle.
"Jillian and I are completely done. I promise you that. We are no longer a thing." He says making air quotations.
''David,'' I give a little chuckle "you were never a thing." I hold up my hand and do air quotations. He nods and laughs too.
We walk over to Samara and Kali. They are standing and Kali must be blabbing on about something because Samara is looking bored out of her mind.
I catch the last part of her sentence "-I can't say anything in this school!"
"Sure you can baby, you can say anything to me." David says sweetly to her and she snuggles up against him.
A few minutes later the doors of the school open.
