When I was younger, I had always been afraid of the dark. I would have nightmares about the evil creatures that lurked within, and see them out the corner of my eye at night. I could barely ever get enough sleep.

But after Moon showed up, I had found comfort in the darkness. I would often see his eyes at night, and feel that he was watching me to keep me safe. I also knew he was very strict about sleep schedules and I didn't want to disappoint him.

"Alright Starshine, you need to sleep now. You've had a busy day, and should keep a healthy sleep cycle!" His tone of voice told me that he wasn't as serious as he usually was about sleep. I was going to protest, but I knew Moon wouldn't allow that.
"I get the final say; it's my- our daycare after all!"
I groaned and, with great complaining from me, settled down into the cosy sheets. As the lights were already off, I didn't have to deal with getting up again to turn it off. I could rest easy with the guidance of Moon.

"Moon...?" I whispered after he had just closed his eyes, most likely assuming that I'd already fallen asleep. He looked startled, then irritated.
"You should be asleep, Y/N. It's too late for you to be up." I thought he would have sounded more aggressive, but it was late after all, and I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to startle me. "But... I need a drink. Could you get me one please?"
He hesitated, then sighed.
"... fine. But you better go to sleep after, or there will be consequences-"
"Thank you Moon!" I smiled innocently as he trudged away to get me a glass of water.

I took this time to stare up at the ceiling; it always looked so pretty in the dark. The glow in the dark stars made me feel like I was actually floating in space. A calmness spread through me, one that I rarely ever felt, and I truly felt at home there at the Daycare.

A few moments later, heavy footsteps approached, and a deep sigh full of exhaustion could be heard from within the darkness. Moon's soft glowing eyes appeared out of nowhere, and his thin, spindly fingers were grasping a glass of water.
"I've got your drink Starshine, now please go to sleep..."
"Thank you Moon! But I... umm... can't sleep without a teddy-"
"You said you would go to sleep!" He argued, but still whispering.
"Yeah, but I won't be able to get to sleep without a teddy! Mine is in my bag, but it's all the way over there!" I pointed to the other side of the room dramatically. "Pleeeeeeeease?" I begged. He stared at me for a moment, but he gave in, and went to get my bag.

"Is there anything else I can do?" He grunted aggressively. I thought for a moment, and then an idea popped into my head. Something I knew Moon could never refuse.
"Would you sing me a lullaby?" I looked up at him, and his expression softened.
"Alright, Starshine. For you, I'll sing."

"Days seem sometimes as if they'll never end, Sun digs it's heels to taunt you~"

Moon had the softest singing voice I had ever heard. His gentle expressions as he sang, his small smile, all made me understand that Moon wasn't a bad person. He was just... misunderstood.

"But after sunlit days, one thing stays the same... rises the moon~"

I felt myself drift away as the song swirled gently around my head. His singing calmed me down so much that I was fast asleep in almost an instant. The last thing I saw before sleep took over me was the way Moon looked so at peace, as if his warm melodies were also sending him to sleep. I smiled to myself.

So this is what home feels like...
