Moon glanced over at me from the nap time corner. Everyone else was fast asleep. He stood up, being careful to not wake the others up, and made his way over to the table.
"Y/N," he whispered, keeping as quiet as possible. "You know how I feel about skipping nap time!"
"I know, but-"
"No 'but'! Sleep! Now!" By that point, his volume had been increasing, and we heard a faint mumbling from the corner. Moon held his finger to his mouth. I obliged, even making my breathing quieter. We stayed still for a moment longer until we were sure that the child had gone back to sleep.
"Okay, now it's time for a nap."
"I'll only have a nap if you play with me!" I exclaimed, still remaining quiet. He raised an eyebrow and must've finally took in all the board games that surrounded us. He let out a tired sigh and nodded.
"Fine. But under one condition," he groaned. I grinned excitedly. "I get to choose what we play."
"Sure!"He eventually decided on playing Trivial Pursuit, which I wasn't going to argue against since I had never lost a game of it before. Moon warmed me just before we began playing that he was very competitive, and apologised for his future self who would most likely be full of rage.
"This is a one off, got it Starshine? But today I'll let you go first." He avoided eye contact with me, and in my mind, I chuckled at his antics.
"Awww you're so nice, Moon!" I mocked, knowing full well that he disliked being called 'nice'. However, I also knew he would never get mad at me, and even when I wasn't asleep during nap time, he wouldn't shout or get mad.The first few questions were easy; Moon had allowed us to play the family edition with facts that I actually knew. However, he and I both knew that we'd run out of kids cards eventually, and I was pretty sure Moon knew everything in the world. I thought I would lose for certain.
It was my go now, and my hand shook as I rolled the dice. It danced along the table for a few seconds before abruptly stopping, and landing on 'sports'. I groaned. Sports was my sorest subject, and I wasn't sure if I even knew anything about, well, any of it! Moon knew this, mostly because I was usually complaining to him about PE and how awful it was in the rare occasions we got to chat. He put on the fakest sad expression, and unlike Sun, he didn't bother to hide his smugness. He eagerly picked up a card, awaiting my demise.
"Who has won more tennis grand slam titles, Venus Williams or Serena Williams?"
It was a 50/50 chance, which meant I could possibly get this one. I had no idea though! As soon as all hope seemed lost, something in my head clicked. I remembered a conversation I'd had with my mum a few weeks ago.
"Serena Williams!" I exclaimed a little too loudly. Moon hushed me and sneaked a glance at the corner. When he turned back, I apologised and he turned the card over.
The silence was killing me. His shocked expression told me I had won the card, but I had to be sure.
"Moon...?" I whispered. His face went from shocked to pure anger in a heartbeat, his glowing red eyes intensifying by the second. I stepped back, ready to make a run for the light switch. In a final attempt to calm him down, I pointed at the others. That seemed to do the trick.
"... Sorry Starshine..." he whispered guilty. I couldn't blame him, really; he had warned me about his rage. But I wanted to win, even if it meant having to constantly calm Moon down. After a while, we had both calmed down, and were constantly getting the questions wrong. There was no longer a fierce competition, and we were both beginning to get bored of it.
"Starshine," Moon whispered with utter defeat. "I think it's time to pack away now. You promised you'd sleep, and I've held up my end of the bargain."
"Fiiiiiiiiiiiine..." I sighed dramatically, leaning back in my chair in annoyance. Moon rolled his eyes and picked me up out of my seat.
"You've left me no other choice Y/N."After much protest from me, he finally managed to get me settled down with the others.
"If you really can't sleep, I'll sing you a lullaby."
My eyes lit up. Moon could probably tell. I nodded madly and snuggled into the cosy sheets.
His soft voice filled me with that warm joy and peace that it always did, and made me fall asleep almost instantly.
"Goodnight Starshine. Sweet dreams." Those words swirled calming my around my mind as I finally gave in to sleep."Rise and shine everybody!" A cheery voice called from the direction of the light switch. A collection of groans echoed throughout the Daycare.
"Awww come on! I have something fun planned for us!"
At the word 'fun', everyone decided they weren't tired anymore, and that they were going to jump up and let the cold air reach me. I shivered.
"...you alright Sunshine?"
I turned to see Sun with a hint of concern on his face.
"I'm tired..." I yawned, throwing the blankets back over myself.
Sun frowned. "But I've saved the best game for last, and everyone else is really excited to play!"
"What game is it?"
Sun smiled. "You'll see. Now get up before I drag you out myself!" This was clearly a joke, but I didn't want to find out if he was being serious. Slower than usual, I crawled out the sheets, and followed Sun towards our mystery game.
