Our second January's Featured Spotlight is onechapteraway - she won our first Contest Winter Memories with her short story Fantastic Journey!
About her: Jen is a passionate reader, who loves romance books, has an obsession with tea and has just found the joy of writing! When she's not poking her nose in a book, she lovingly takes care of her two cats or spends a lot of time outdoors.
Prompt for the winning story "Fantastic Journey" of our contest "Winter Memories": A finder has the ability to locate lost items. They can simply touch a person, and they will be able to mentally locate the lost item in question. As Christmas approaches, you want to fulfil your dearest wish to know the location of your missing sibling. After being touched by the finder, they told you about an enchanted place called Neverland. You trust their statement and do everything possible to get there to find your sibling. But what will happen on your trip and especially in Neverland?
Her favourite quote in "Fantastic Journey": "Peter Pan comes and visits again and again and tells us the latest news from Neverland. And Captain Hook is still up there with his gang of pirates to catch him and his lost boys."
1. We have come across many adaptations of Neverland and its characters. Do you have a favourite one?
Answer:
There are many great adaptations of Neverland! I really like the series "Once Upon A Time", the book "Lost Boy: All children grow up except one..." by Christina Henry and the general fairytale of Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. My favourite character is Tiger Lily because she has always been one of my favourites!
2. You took part in our "Winter Memories" contest. What inspired you to write "Fantastic Journey" in a journal style?
Answer:
I've always been fascinated by writing journals and by Neverland & the fairy tales of Peter Pan in general since I was a little child! Then I came across your contest and I thought of combining the journal style with your prompt. And that's how I submitted my entry afterwards!
3. Do you intend to write a novel about Neverland in the near future or about any other topic since you've only written short stories so far?
Answer:
Yes, I already have some ideas for my own novels. Among other ideas, I'm also planning to write a story about Neverland, but I still have to work this out in more detail. At the moment, however, other stories are in the foreground for me, which I would like to start writing first!
4. What's the one piece of advice you would like to share with other writers?
Answer:
If you have a special story in your head, don't let it go, write it down! This is how the best stories come about and it would be a shame if such ideas were simply dropped. Make the best out of your stories and share them with the world!
5. Neverland plays a central role in the fairy tale of Peter Pan. If you could only describe it in six adjectives, which ones would you use?
Answer:
I associate Neverland with the adjectives magical, dreamy, boundless, magnificent and wonderful. And for one simple reason: Because I always think in this direction when I hear the word Neverland.
