Rematch
Realizing he'd have an audience this time in the form of Khonshu, the Kid Lich really wanted to win. He and Sobek walked over to their respective corners, where they had started their first spar. "Okay, same rules as last time? Fight until your opponent yields or is effectively incapacitated?" Billy asked Sobek.
Khonshu, who had followed the two immortals and was currently relaxed on Billy's u-shaped arrangement of leather sofas, stretched out his legs onto the footrest and placed his hands behind his head. "Oh man, I am so going to enjoy this." He said. Before the Moon God got too comfortable, he tried to reach in his suit pocket for a cigarette.
Spotting this, but too far away to do anything about it himself, the Kid Lich summoned a small bone from one of the walls which zipped towards him, knocking the cigarette out of Khonshu's mouth on the way. "Hey!" he protested. "Dude, no smoking in here, I'll never get the smell out. If you wanna watch the spar you'll have to agree not to smoke."
Khonshu looked none too pleased about this, clearly not appreciating the fact he was only one of five beings who even knew of the base's existence. "Ugh, fine." He relaxed and got ready to watch the fight.
Sobek, eager to begin, got his staff out. Between Khonshu's application of bandages, Billy's necromancy restoring his soul, and the generally high durability of his own scales, the Crocodile God was, for the most part, back to his old self. Billy remembered his thought to use a different finisher this time, and being determined to do so, found himself in a conundrum. He really had no plan or move prepared to use against Sobek this time. He'd have to wing it.
Tired of all the waiting, Sobek said: "Khonshu, count us in!" Billy was ready for the Crocodile God to charge him right away like he did last time, but interrupted before Khonshu could do as he asked. "Hold on! I won't be using the teleportation stopwatch this time, but you still have your staff, so in the interest of fairness I should get to arm myself with something else!"
Sobek made a pleading look at Khonshu, as if the gambler who cheated with loaded dice had any interest in fairness. "Don't look at me; it isn't my spar. Still, I think the kid has a point." Oh thank God. Billy thought to himself. If he had to fight with nothing but his mind, his agility, and his necromancy, he'd be screwed. He'd only had enough time to cast the plasma bolt in the first spar because he'd had the stopwatch to put enough distance between him and Sobek to do so.
When they had arrived at the base, and after they'd stabilized Billy's condition, before beginning her pointless patrol, Artemis had placed the bronze stopwatch in Billy's combination trophy and weapons cabinet. There wasn't much in this cabinet, but Billy headed over there now to arm himself.
I need something that can take a huge amount of force without breaking. Sobek hits so incredibly hard, if I blocked a strike with a normal weapon it would certainly shatter. After further consideration, Billy thought it best not to go for a bladed weapon, like a sword, or even a spear, but something that would allow him to focus on dodging Sobek's strikes while at the same time landing his own in the most natural way possible.
Instead of the bronze teleportation stopwatch, this time he went for a pair of brass knuckles. At least, that's what most people called them. This particular pair were made of a reinforced steel-titanium alloy. Billy had thought the item wouldn't be much help when it came to harming a god, but as a thank you for his assist with the Set Animal, Artemis had given the knuckles her blessing before beginning her patrol.
Moon-blessed steel was a metal that could harm gods and kill monsters. Having put the knuckles on and walked back to his starting space, the Kid Lich was now ready for what he thought would be a very quick spar. He had been mentally preparing himself to just yield once he got tired of dodging blows from the staff.
