Billy the Kid Lich: Pt. 3

William Phipps

A Day in the Life, Now – On the Hunt

It was the same as any other day. I went to my local high school. Went to all my classes. The best part about being a sorcerer is I didn't have to worry about all that much. There's a spell to suggest to someone to do something that works 7/10ths of the time. At this point, I've been in high school for so long I just ask the teachers to give me an A without doing any work. I've just taken all the classes already.

Anyways, after school, I hopped on my road bike while wearing my backpack and went hunting. Somedays I end up just enjoying the fresh air and exercise, those are the days I don't see anyone currently in the act of committing a felony. I did today, though.

He was an old balding man, maybe in his early sixties. He was wearing large baggy gym pants and an oversized hoodie – probably to make him less recognizable on security camera feeds. People would have the wrong idea on his body image. He was patient; so was I.

Today had turned into a stakeout. No big deal, I reached in my backpack and retrieved two things: a flip video camera and a Nintendo DS lite with Pokémon on it. The video camera was to get evidence of the man committing the crime. Pokémon was to keep me entertained during the stakeout. We were currently in a Publix parking lot.

I'd been waiting for him to make his move for an hour when he acted. I got out my camera and started recording. He used a bobby pin to pick the lock of a vehicle. He got in and inserted some oddly shaped clay into the ignition, and to my surprise, the car started. He began to drive away. No one had noticed him. I followed on my bike. I pedaled hard, sped up and biked directly in front of his vehicle after casting a brief pain-numbing spell on myself.

My body would still sustain the injuries, but I wouldn't feel the initial pain for another hour. His car hit me. I rolled toward his windshield as he braked, and then was thrown off the side onto my bike. I'd be okay. He got out.

"Are you okay?" He said while offering me a hand up. I took his hand, clamped it, and burned a pentagram on his wrist in green flame. "Don't cry out. Don't look around." He obliged. "Your life belongs to me; you shouldn't steal cars." He struggled to free his arm, but couldn't. "Who are you?" he asked. "The last person you'll ever meet. Look into my eyes." He did.

His mind was instantly flooded with visions of the most gruesome tortures imaginable, burning hellscapes, monsters, demons, and terror. It wouldn't be long now before his sanity left the building. "No, Mr. Blipplediff, the kitten only ate the laundry detergent!" That was fast. I burned him. His body spontaneously combusted into ash, nothing but his clothes and personal belongings left behind. His soul would move on to whatever afterlife it had earned, and the world had one less criminal in it. I gathered up his clothes and put the evidence into my backpack. I left the vehicle in the street to be found by the cops who were undoubtedly searching for it. I retrieved my laptop out of my backpack and did one last thing.

I took my flip video camera and flipped the switch on it that exposed the USB port. I fired up my laptop and uploaded that footage to the internet. Lastly, I put on some gloves so as not to leave any fingerprints, and used the man's cell to phone to place an anonymous tip to the police as to the location of their stolen vehicle. I used a voice distortion spell to disguise my voice and identity. After all of that was handled, I retrieved my (thankfully undamaged) bicycle and biked home. End of Pt. 3.
