"C'mon! She's just a girl. We can take her"
The two teenagers stood in front of a pink-haired girl. They tried hitting on her and as soon as she hurt their ego, they resorted to a language they understood more
Violence, of course
Unfortunately for them, this girl also talked her best with her fists
A single punch from her sent one of them stumbling back, much to the other's surprise
Suddenly, there was a whistle, loud enough to earn their attention
They turned and found a new face sitting on a crate, with the sun hitting his back
For the pink-haired girl, this was not someone new. It was of course, her brother Y/N
But the other two didn't know it. They weren't from around here
Y/N: Fellas, fellas. Care to explain what is going on?
The other delinquent stood back up as they addressed this third party. The girl, however, just smirked
???: Oh? You're here to protect your girlfriend?
Y/N made a disgusted face, then lifted one finger
Y/N: Okay, one, she's my sister, and two...
He turned to look at the girl and smirked before he returned his attention to them
Y/N: Vi can kick your asses just fine. I'm just here to make sure she doesn't actually kill you
This got the girl laughing, which the others took offense to
One of them swung while she was distracted
???: OH YEAH!? LET'S SEE IF--UGHH!!
Suddenly, he was met with a wooden sword to the face, thrown his way by Y/N
Y/N: Having the advantage in numbers wasn't enough?
He jumped from the crate and as soon as these foes regained their composure, they lunged to fight once again
Vi dodged and delivered a right hook before she punched her opponent on the ribs
Y/N ducked under a punch and punched the man in the jaw and taking advantage of this, kicked him in the stomach with enough force to send him back
The delinquent screamed as he threw a punch at Vi, only for her to catch it and twist his hand in an unnatural way. The scream went from rage to pain in seconds before the girl pushed him back once again
These people didn't need to be geniuses to see that they would only get more hurt if they stayed, so they glared at the siblings one last time before they ran away
Once they were gone, they turned their attention to each other
Y/N: So, care to tell me what was that about?
Vi: I was taking a stroll and--
Y/N: Uh-huh
Vi: I was! But these jackasses didn't accept no for an answer, so I resorted to other methods to make them understand
This earned a chuckle from the young man
Y/N: Well, I don't know if there's a more direct message than kicking the shit out of someone
She punched her open palm slightly
Vi: Exactly
Slowly, she lowered her hands and turned away from him, looking at the direction her opponents fled in
Vi: You're right. I didn't need the backup, but thanks anyway
Y/N: Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to do it alone, Vi
Then, he threw an arm over Vi's shoulders, earning a surprised chuckle from her
Y/N: 'sides, we're partners in crime, remember?
Vi just rolled her eyes and smiled playfully
"Of course, partner"
...
...
The building where the Council held their meetings was burning, and Vi knew exactly who did it
But it didn't matter
She was powerless to stop it, and now Jinx was gone
Vi had failed
She failed her sister
She failed Caitlyn
She failed everyone
But there was someone who could still be saved, and she refused to leave without him
Caitlyn: I see him!
Vi: Where!?
She pointed at the water and without thinking it twice, Vi jumped in. She dived deeper into the coldness of the unknown until she found something, something that made her eyes go wide
Sinking deeper and deeper was her brother, but he was bleeding, badly
It reminded her of that fateful night at this same place. Vi ran as far and as fast as she could to try and save her brother from bleeding to death, especially when the last time she saw him he was going to confront Jinx
She wished she could say things were different from now, but the only difference was the person responsible for his wounds
It broke her heart just to think about it, but Vi pushed those thoughts aside and she got a hold of Y/N and started to swim back to the surface
"Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to do it alone, Vi"
When she was near, a hand appeared for her to take. Vi got a hold of it and soon, she was being pulled back to the surface by Caitlyn
And with them, was Y/N
Vi held on to the young man, with tears in her eyes as the desperation started to take over her. She held him tightly as if he would disappear the moment she let go, and she kept repeating the same phrase over and over
"This is all my fault"
Vi only stopped when a hand toucher her shoulder. It was Caitlyn
The sight of her best friend knocking on death's door was too much for the young Kiramman to handle, given the fact that she had already lost someone this atrocious day
But much like Vi, she refused to let anyone else die this day, especially someone she held close to her heart, so she rushed and checked immediately if there was any pulse
And as luck would have it
There was
The young Enforcer and the brawler from Zaun worked together to save him as best as they could until they could get real medical attention
Neither of them was willing to let him die here
Where everything was lost
In the end, life had forced Y/N to choose between securing true peace for the first time since Zaun's conception or saving the ones he loved
So he made his choice
But Jinx refused to let him take that path, she refused to drag him with her
So she chose for him, even if it broke both of their hearts
Y/N, on the other hand, was never alone. He had a partner in crime after all
And she would be damned if she left him alone again
