Luminous swayed back and forth on a raft. Her blue eyes stared up at the blank gray sky. The gray ocean water splashing onto the raft.

“Oh dang it! Not the robe, I had to wait until the style died to get this robe!”

Luminous glanced over to the ferryman. His dark robes swayed in the wind as he steered the raft. She looked up to the plumb sails swaying in the wind.

Luminous got up, taking the plumb sails. Positioning them around the ferryman so he wouldn't get wet.

“Hey! What are you doing?!” Shouted the ferryman.

“You’re robe. I was trying to save it.” Said Luminous.

“You shouldn't do that. You’ll mess with the direction of the sail.”

Luminous and the ferryman sat silently for a moment. Before the ferryman turned back to her and said.

"But, thank you anyway. That's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me."

"No problem." Said Luminous. "I wish that I could have done more with my life."

"Well, you're an earnest kid. I wouldn't be too worried about meeting the Monotonous king."

"Who's the Monotonous-"

However the ferry and the ferryman were gone the next moment. Instead of riding a raft on the waves, she was standing on the beach of white sand.

There was a castle made of ebony in front of her. Luminous was somewhat drawn to it and she took a step towards it.

She must have blanked out because the next thing she knew she was in a lush green garden. The only indication that she was in the castle she saw earlier, the ebony walls sounding her.

She was so distracted by the whole place that she almost didn't notice the statuesque  man infront of her. He wore dark plum robes that covered him fully, the only thing showing was his mouth and arm's. That looked like they were made from ivory bone.

Luminous started unmoving as the man spoke.

"The welders of Fate, a cycle of life bound, defeating the darkness that surrounds."

A tree grew behind the ivory man like they were spider legs sticking out from behind his back.

"But what is light without darkness itself?"

The tree limbs grew pomegranate fruit on them. They got bigger and bigger. One of the pomegranates got so big that it fell off the branch into Luminous’s tinny hands. Her round face showed in the reflection of the fruit.

"Expressly since you are a being of darkness yourself."

Luminous opened her mouth to take a bite out of the pomegranate.

"You have to be alive for me!"

Luminous stopped when she heard a familiar voice cry out.

"Vainglorious?"

Luminous shook her head, shaping out of her previous trance.

"I have to go back. I have something I have to do!"

She told the statuesque figure surrounded by the pomegranate tree. The figure stood staring at her before responding.

"Promise me one thing."

"Anything."

"Live your life for you."
