Captivity

I know I haven't written in like a year, but I got a request to do a one shot where Hiccup was captured by Dragon Hunters. So here it is. This one is set in RTTE when Heather is still pretending to work with the Dragon Hunters.

Hiccup let out a groan of frustration and sank down against the wall of her cell. Her sore arms  where the hunters had aggressively manhandled her into the confined space, not doing anything to brighten her mood. Today would go down in history as one of her personal least favorite days of all time. It had started off poorly when she'd woken to the sounds of explosion echoing off the rock walls of the cliff face that situated Dragon's Edge. The twins, having invented a new game called fire darts, had already set  aflame one side of the club house and effectively char grilled two flights of stairs. The day had only gone downhill from there. Before midday, she'd already extinguished two fires, broken up six fights and even been the unfortunate soul to almost be crushed by a watch tower when Snotlout and Hookfang bowled into the side of it during a race against some wild Nadders. It was safe to say that by the evening, the riders had already been grating on her nerves. So when a food fight among Snotlout and Tuffnut broke out during dinner; that was the final straw. Between Ruffnut chanting in her ear, Fishlegs moaning about the jug that was knocked over his lap and Ash hollering profanities at having been hit by a flying pie, Hiccup snapped.

She'd claimed she needed a moments peace away from them all just to wind down. That was how she'd ended up in this mess now. Hiccup sighed, prodding a finger at her upper arm where she knew a bruise would already be forming. So caught up in the midst of her irritation, the little Hooligan hadn't noticed the fleet of hunter ships creeping along the water until it was too late. A net had come flying out of the darkness, causing both her and Toothless to plummet into the icy water below. Once dragged on board, the pair had been promptly separated and hauled to different prison cells to be contained. So that was where Hiccup slumped now, awaiting whomever the hunters had gone to fetch.

She didn't have to wait long before foot steps echoed down the hall and a familiar mop of red hair prowled into view. His eyes were predatory and his lips curled into a menacing, triumphant grin. Heather slithered in behind him, her closed off expression a stark contrast to Dagur's malicious smirk.

"Hiccup!" Dagur greeted, theatrically throwing his arms out as if greeting an old friend, "fancy meeting you here."

"Likewise." She snapped abruptly, glaring up at the maniac from her position on the floor.

"So where are your little buddies?" Dagur bent forwards, resting his hands on his knees, jeering in her direction with disturbing excitement.

"On their way. We got separated briefly, but I expect they will be here any minute."

That was a lie. Hiccup had claimed she'd be gone for a couple hours and stressed that they not bother following her as she really needed some space. The others wouldn't even know anything was amiss for quite some time. By that point who knows where the ship would have sailed to.

Nevertheless, the answer appeared to create the intended effect as Dagur straightened up, pausing for a moment and glancing around as if waiting for a fireball to come flying out of thin air.

"Really?" He cocked his brow, side eyeing her with suspicion.

"Yes," she confirmed with an false confidence, holding her head high under the scrutiny.

They stayed that way for a couple of brief seconds, eyes boring into one another, each daring their opponent to back down.

"Good."

Both head swiveled round as Heather piped up for the first time in the conversation. She regarded Hiccup with an unreadable expression before painting a sneer on her face and turning to her brother.
