Chapter 34: Allison’s Point of View
How could he do something like that? I thought we were friends. After everything I’ve said to him. After everything he's said to me. And then he just uses me. Has he been using me the whole time? Were those conversations over coffee meaningless? It wouldn’t be the first time a guy pretended to like me for sex, but for jealousy? I just don’t understand.
I mean, everything was going so well, wasn’t it? I racked my mind for the answer
Just the other day we were at a coffee shop near my house. I was anxious.
“How do you like it?” I said referring to his drink. Ryan heard the uneasiness in my voice.
“What’s up?” he asked me with concerned eyes.
“Mine isn’t as good as the one last time, but I like it.” I stirred my drink.
“Allison.” I looked up, seeing the worry on his face. With the risk of sounding sexual, I loved it when he said my name. He pronounced every syllable carefully, like it was really important.
“It’s just…my dad lives close.”
He leaned closer, looking into my eyes. “Do you want to go?”
“No,” I said softly, “I just don’t want to think about it.” I put my head in my hands.
He reached across the table and moved my hand away from my face, bringing it down to rest on the table with his.
That had seemed so real, but then later, when he kissed me, that felt like he meant it too. He didn’t though. He was just using me. I wish I knew why.
The bell rang, making me jump and scattering my thoughts.
“Alright, students,” my English teacher said, “turn in your tests in the front of the class.”
I looked down at my blank test. My name was the only thing I had written on it.
“Allison, c’mon, the period’s over.” My heart picked up speed.
I was the only one left in the room. Slowly, I walked to her desk.
“Can I have more time?” I asked.
She didn’t look up, just held out her hand.
“The period is over.”
“Please?” My breathing was quickening.
She finally looked at me, probably saw the anxiety on my face, and asked to see how much I had done. I reluctantly handed my test over. She got angry.
“If you’re going to waste my class daydreaming, don’t expect my sympathies, Allison.”
“No, you don’t understand I can’t just get a zero…”
“You’re lucky I don’t give you detention,” she cut me off, “Now go along to your next class.”
“Please, just give me some more time. I can re-take it.” I asked desperately.
“No, Allison,” she was getting louder. “Get out of my class.”
“You don’t understand!” My stomach was clenching up.
“Allison, I said no.”
My stomach heaved and I dropped to my knees, vomiting in the trash can in front of me.
“For god’s sake,” she muttered.

By the time I got back to Brendon’s apartment after cheer practice, I was beat. I lied down on the couch.
Brendon walked in with grocery bags not too much later.
“Allison, you look like you could use a drink,” he said after putting down the bags on the counter.
“I’ll pass,” I said, having been pretty nauseous since the occurrence today in English. Although, bringing that incident back to my mind made me reconsider. “On second thought…” I got up and grabbed the bottle of wine Brendon had just bought and poured myself a glass.
He got one for himself too, coming over and sitting on the couch with me and setting the bottle down on the coffee table. I sighed loudly.
“Long day?” he said. I responded by taking another sip.
We drank in silence, allowing ourselves to get lost in our own thoughts. When my glass was empty, I reached for the bottle. At the same time, Brendon did too and our hands touched.
“Sorry,” I mumbled, looking over at him. We looked into each other’s eyes for a moment. Brendon then blinked and uncharacteristically laughed awkwardly.
After a glass or two more, I announced that I was off to bed and went to Brendon’s room.
Soon after I was under the covers, Brendon came in and joined me. We had been sharing the bed for a while now without any weirdness, but tonight there was some undefinable tension between us and I felt uncomfortable about it. I tried to sleep anyway, not being able to forget how warm he felt next to me.
“Allison,” I opened my eyes to darkness. “Allison, I can’t sleep.”
Suddenly, I felt his arms closing around me. I rolled over so that I was facing him and our lips connected, sending warmness throughout my body. He continued kissing me, I tried to remember something I liked more that Brendon kissing me.
It didn’t take me too long to do that.
