Chapter 10: Part 1 Allison’s P.O.V.

I sat in my car, digging through the glove department for a CD to play before driving to school. There’s never any good music on the radio, so I make them to listen to. Pulling out a stack, I flipped through the music. All Time Low. Mac Miller. The Cab. All CD’s I listened to recently. I stuck my hand back into the compartment and found one stuck way in the back. After dislodging it, I looked at the front to see what it was and smiled. It said ‘Panic Bitches’ in my messy scrawl. I remember I used to listen to this way back when my father would drive me to school. Oh what a trip down memory lane…

After popping the CD in my car and turning up the volume, I pulled out of my driveway and headed to school with ‘Hurricane’ blasting.

Once I arrived, I reluctantly cut the engine and stepped out into the cold December air. Shivering, I wrapped my jacket closer around me.

“Allison!” I looked over to see my teammate, Kayleigh, waving at me from the middle of the student parking lot. We were wearing almost the same thing, blue polo’s, kaki skirts, and navy knee high socks. The only difference was that she was wearing boots and I was in oxfords. Her dark red hair came down to her elbows and was half up. She stood well over me, even though I’m not short, for a girl at least.

“Hey!” I walked over to her.

“So, how have you been doing?” she asked me.

“Good, well as good as I can be with this shitty weather. I miss my shorts.” I grimaced. “How have you been holding up?” We started walking towards the school entrance.

She chuckled. “I can tell you’re a morning person!” I rolled my eyes, but smiled. “I’ve been pretty good. It’s not too long until winter break.” How can she be so optimistic so early in the morning?

“Yeah, I guess.”

“And today’s Friday! I heard you and Brent Myers have a date!”

Now THAT makes me feel better. I grimaced again; luckily she didn’t see my face. “Oh, right,” was all I replied.

Kayleigh smiled because she thought she made me feel better and truthfully, she kind of did. Not by bringing up me and Brent’s date, but by the fact that she was trying to make me happier. God, she’s such a sweetheart. I tried to be a little more positive.

“What are you guys doing?” She asked me.

I thought for a moment, as we climbed up the stairs to the main doors. “I actually don’t know yet.”

“Oh,” she paused to say thanks because I held the door open for her. “Well I think you guys look really cute together! And it’s adorable how you always wear his jacket!”

I laughed as I thought of Brent in Brendon’s stylish leather jacket. It was kind of hard to imagine; he always wore his white and navy blue, which were our school’s colors, lettermen jacket that he got from the football team. “This isn’t Brent’s. We’re not together.”

She looked at me like that was news to her. “But, you wore it all week and on Friday after Winter Formal you went up with him…” Does everyone know about that? Ugh, that’s gonna take a while to pass. She saw my face was serious and shrugged. “Whatever,” Kayleigh continued, “You have to tell me whose that really is later then!” I smiled at her apparent need for gossip.

We were at my locker now. Kayleigh said bye and headed down the hallway to hers. I dialed my combination and started getting the stuff I needed for the day.

When I was done, I stood up and hung Brendon’s jacket up in my locker. I felt the warmth of someone next to me.

“Hey, babe,” just the person I didn’t want to see.
