Chapter 13: The Battle

{Alaric's Prov}

The battle was difficult with Mia's old coven attacking and playing their mind tricks. It had been a while since Anna's stand-in had died but I didn't worry one bit because I knew that she was safe with her brother and his mate. I just want to make sure that our life is going to be great and happy after this. Having the danger of the vampires and then the supernatural hunters is not helping either.

Anna comes in and looks at me without saying a word, so I know something is wrong. Especially since she hasn't been feeling good for about two weeks now and I say "Babe what is wrong, please tell me. I do not want to use our bond to find out what you are feeling but please tell me." I looked at her and she sighed and said, "Alaric, I just found out I am pregnant but that means they will be coming for him or her." After saying this she begins to cry her eyes out and begins to fall apart at the thought of losing our unborn baby to the vampires that have been trying to kill her brother, her, and now me. I go to hold her thinking that this is all I can do at this point. Don't get me wrong I am overjoyed that we are having a pup of our own, but it couldn't come at the worse time. So, I say "Anna, my love we will find a cure for this curse that I have and stop the vampires from taking our unborn child. That only gives us what 4 to 5 months to stop and defeat Mia's old clan right." I say this to her knowing that all I can do is protect her from a distance right now due to the curse that I have. This curse is getting harder to figure out what is a dream and reality right now.

Having told Anna this, she sighs and walks out of my office, and I get to work on figuring out how to break my curse. Only now having a little time left to figure it out and defeat Mia's old coven. The next thing I know I hear Sophia screaming and seeing Anna out cold on the floor. I hadn't felt her pain or hurt and felt immediately bad because maybe I had put my wall up without even knowing it. So, I took her into my arms and ran to the pack hospital worried that I might lose her or the baby or maybe even both. I watched as they hooked Anna to machines and an I.V. I just sat by her bedside until she woke up.

I had begun to stir because I felt eyes on me and then they looked away. I woke up groggy and I saw Anna awake and jumped up out of my chair and immediately hugged her. What I didn't realize I was crushing her until she said in a strained voice "Alaric babe you are crushing me." I laughed released her and explained what had happened "Babe you passed out in front of our bedroom and Sophia found you. I was worried because I could not feel that you were hurt or even in danger. I am really sorry Anna I failed to protect you and our pup." She smiled and said "Alaric my love you are not a failure. I could have been found hours later than I did. If it were not for Sophia who had not found us, we would have probably would have had more serious injuries and you know it. I promise you but I think all of this is stress is too much." She had laughed at what she was saying but I just purred hearing her laugh. When the laughter stopped someone had said "It was not your stress level that made you pass out but the curse on Alaric. I am sorry Anna, but I think they might be trying to accelerate your pregnancy. If you allow me to perform a protection spell on you and the baby, they would not be able to get to you so easily. This could also prevent them from taking the future Alpha/Luna at this time. It will also give us a reason to lure them here being unable to find the young alpha/luna. If you go with the protection spell, you will have to go into hiding once it is finished. So, when they come here, they can't find you."

I stayed quiet and let Anna think about what she wanted to do. She mind links me and says "Alaric my love I'm going to do it and go with my brother and his mate to the beach house. Please end this quickly so I can come home sooner rather than later." And all I had to say was this "No absolutely not. I am not willing to risk my mate and unborn pup's life. Just to lure your old coven, Mia, I am sorry, but I cannot risk their safety. If that spell can keep her and the baby become safe from the coven and stop them from trying to accelerate the pregnancy then do it, but I draw the line at using them as bait, I am sorry Mia." All Anna does is look at me and touch my hand to calm me down. We had just mated and found out that she was pregnant I was not going to lose them both. Not even to put them into a protection detail with someone I hardly trusted with her. I understand that he is her brother, but I don't like the feeling im getting off of him.
