You feel a wave of cold hit your skin as if someone had stuck you in a freezer, you blink your eyes, slightly panicking, and you sit up and try to clear your vision so you can see where you are. For a second the thought crosses your mind that you could still be in your own head, trapped, unable to get out but it quickly passes as you begin to see the outline of the room you're in.

You realise the lights are off and that it's more than likely dark outside and then you feel the sheets that your surrounded with. You sigh and put your hand to your forehead now realising that you're just in your own room. Your freezing but your face is glistening from sweat so you sigh again this time in annoyance and go to stand up, freezing as you hear someone in the corner of your room

You squint your eyes to see if you can see who it is and you see Scott's sleeping face in beanbag in the corner of the room. You stay still for a second so you don't wake him and you carefully lift over the covers on your bed. You slide sideways and sit on the side of it before placing your hands down so you can stand up without making any noise. You wince as you stand up, trying to be as quiet as possible and walk on tippy toes with your bare feet on the cold floor.

You walk over to one of your drawers and grab a hold of the handle before pulling it out pretty much in slow motion. a pair of fluffy socks and a jacket soon fixes the fact that you are freezing before turning towards the door where Scott is deeply sleeping next to. You smile wishing you had your phone on you right now because this would be the funniest leverage by a long shot but you have no idea where it is and it's not exactly the time to look for it.

You walk still on your toes towards the door, freezing in place every time Scott snores too  loud of moves around to get comfortable and when you get to the door you take in a deep breath and cringe, pulling the handle down as slowly as possible, you take your time with making sure it doesn't thud when the handle goes back up and then you try to open it as little as you can without hitting anything on your way out. squeezing out of the small gap in the door and getting all the way in the corridor before you dared breath out leaves you more breathless than originally thought. You look back at the door and decide to just pull it to and not hassle around with closing it.

You walk through the corridor trying to be as quiet as possible whilst navigating your way through the dark towards the stairs because the last thing you need is jarvis booming at you through the lift whilst people in the building are trying to sleep, only resulting in an moody tony, a slightly terrifying assassin, a probably confused best friend, an annoyed last donut with red white and blue sprinkles stealer, a doctor with a few less brain cells, a rhodey with a lot of eye rolling, a 15 year old spider kid whom you know nothing about and you can't even begin to think how dramatic Bucky and Sam would be about the whole situation...and a red head who your sure would fry your brain from the inside out, if she even made an appearance, though that's beginning to seem extremely unlikely considering today's chain of events. The thought of what happened today starts spinning in your head as you think that all you have is more questions and less answers.

You go straight up the stairs, climbing them breathlessly, just going up and up and up until you reach the top floor that you were on with Scott with the nice window seat. You smile wide as you see the archway for the floor opening and you break for a second, leaning your hands on your knees to catch your breath. You zip up your jacket and walk through with your hands in your pockets. Whilst walking into the room you stop as quick as you started. You try to turn quietly and return back towards the stairs but the shock of her voice stops you in your tracks.

"You came to give me my brothers key today, why."

You turn and and look at her. She's standing facing the window over in the corner of the room, looking out over the city, clearly it's not as good of a hiding place as you thought. you go silent thinking about it for a minute and replaying everything that happened in your head. The fear when she told you your own mind would be the death of you and the panic when you thought you couldn't fix it.

"I wanted answers"

She stays standing and looking at the window and you just stand there patiently but also edging to leave.

"And now you don't?."

You frown knowing that isn't true and you hesitate before speaking again.

"Of course i do"

You see the sudden light reflecting of the window from the cars below shine across her face and you see she looks beyond tired. You see her face looks drained and her eyes hold nothing and yet everything at the same time. You can't help but feel guilty as if for some reason you are at fault. Your being back has clearly effected her and you don't know what to say or do to help, or even if you should.

She doesn't say anything and for a second you think she's just waiting for you to leave but before you can even think about it you walk forward towards the other big window with the window seat and you sit down in it like earlier. You lean your head against the wall and stare out at the streets. What inspired the sudden confidence you have no idea because your mind is practically screaming at you to just run for it

"You went through so much trouble to get answers and yet you were in no rush earlier and you aren't now."

Her accent comes out so strong as she speaks and you can hear the strain in her voice that it's taking to have a conversation with you.

"Maybe i just realised where i wasn't welcome"

She goes silent and you hear her step towards the staircase that you came up.

"Do you hate me?"

You hadn't expected for your question to come out but it did. You look over to her to watch her reaction but she just pauses and doesn't turn. You have a gut feeling you already know the answer but you had to ask it anyway. Even if it meant you would have to hear it.

"Yes"

feeling like someone just twisted your insides, you watch as her figure walks away and down the steps and you sit in the dark of the night, only the lights from the streets below and streetlamps giving little spots of light. You turn your head back to the window and close your eyes, squeezing them shut as the one word she just spoke floods you. Ouch.
