Pairing: Nanami Chiaki x Sonia Nevermind

Someone on the beach is singing, but Nanami can't figure out who.

Glancing around at all the other patrons on the beach, she can't see anyone's lips moving in sync with the words pouring over her and inviting her in. If she didn't know any better, she'd think it was some sort of siren trying to lure her to her death. Honestly, she finds she wouldn't really mind with a voice like that.

   . . .

This isn't going to stop bugging Nanami until she finds the owner of the voice, huh?

She rises to her feet, tugging on her swimsuit top and sighing.

"Where are you going?" Her friend asks.

Nanami waves her off. "I've just got to. . ." She walks off, in the direction of the cave at the end of the small beach, surrounded by some dark, sharp rocks jutting out of the ground. As she draws closer, the voice seems louder, and she knows she's getting close.

She weaves her way around a couple of rocks before finally catching a glimpse of a girl with blonde hair who's, in fact, the one singing and leaning against one of the rocks. Except she's not exactly human. Because where her hips should be is the beginnings of a long, silver tail.

Nanami sucks in a sharp breath. It's a mermaid. A for real and for true mermaid.

The mermaid immediately freezes and stops singing, whipping her head around to lock eyes with the human who's discovered her.

She makes a move to scramble back into the water, but before she can, Nanami reaches out with one hand and calls, "Wait!"

The mermaid hesitates, glancing between her and the sea.

Nanami sighs. "I. . .I just wanted to compliment you on your singing. It's-no, you're really good. And talented."

The mermaid raises an eyebrow. "Ah. . .Thank you. . .You are not freaked out by me?"

The human slowly shakes her head. "I was surprised at first. . .to be honest. But you're not scary or dangerous. . .I think. In fact, you're kind of cool. And very pretty."

The mermaid blushes. "Ah, thank you. Miss. . ."

   "Nanami Chiaki."

"Miss Nanami. My name is Sonia Nevermind."

The human smiles. "Nice to meet you," She glances towards the water, "I suppose if you're done singing, you're going to leave now, huh?"

"Well, I don't necessarily need to leave right away," Her tail flicks along to a steady beat, "I'm in no hurry."

"Well, I'm here with my friends. I should really get back to them, but first, um, do you think," Nanami turns red, "Can you sing one more song?"

Sonia's eyes widen. "Huh? I-I suppose."

Nanami smiles, falling to her knees and staring at the mermaid attentively. Sonia takes a deep breath and begins to sing.

She really does sound like one would imagine a siren would. Her voice is like a wind chime, a perfect melody. The sound nearly brings tears to the human's eyes.

By the time Sonia's finished, the adoring look Nanami is giving her flusters her so much.

"You're like an angel on Earth," Nanami tells her.

The mermaid hides her face. "Thank you. . ."

"No, thank you for singing to an audience that's just me. You're very kind and talented."

"Thank you. But, you should really be getting back to your friends. They must be getting worried."

"Yeah. . .okay. It was nice meeting you, Sonia."

The mermaid smiles. "It was super nice meeting you, Nanami-san! Let's meet again some time."

The human brightens. "Yeah, for sure! I'll see you."

   "Then, goodbye, lovely Nanami-san."

The mermaid crawls away and slips back into the water, Nanami watching her go.
