Stephanie sent me a text saying she had arrived so I hurried to the where she was to help her with her luggage. Usually I would have waited for her to beg me before helping her with her luggage but this time I have been anticipating her return. This last two weeks has been so boring without her." Steph" I said as I hugged her
" I'm so sorry for what happened" I said as I looked at her face. She looked dull, different from the usual Stephanie. Her face was bare, natural hair packed up and it looked like she had lost some weight.
" What can we do" She said wistfully and I squeezed her hand comfortingly.
I have missed her. During our video calls last week, she cried a lot and it pained my heart to see her like that. I always felt like hugging her and comforting her but I couldn't because of the distance barrier.
" Say hello to my mother" Steph said as she turned to leave the common room.
" Where is Tife" I asked
" I don't know but maybe he will be with my mum" Steph said
Stephanie's mum was a dark tall woman. I guess Steph and Tife got their gene for tallness from their mum but I can't be too sure, their Dad might be tall too.
" Hello Wuraoluwa" Her mum said after she introduced me. I knelt a bit responding to her greetings.
" Good afternoon ma" I said smiling
" Oh, you have a wonderful smile. I have heard a lot about you" She said smiling warmly. She didn't even have to tell me, the way her mum's face beamed when She heard my name showed that she has heard a lot about me.
" Let me get something for you" She said and dipped her hand into her purse and I happily waited for her to draw out her hand from her purse. She brought out Five crisp one thousand naira notes. I smiled widely as I collected it from her.
" Thank you ma" I said smiling
" Just keep being a good girl and you guys should take care of yourselves. Please watch over Stephanie and make sure she eats regularly" She said with a smile and got into her black sleek Jeep and we watched as the driver drove away.
" I'm really sorry about what happened" I said as we walked towards her hostel
" I wish She is still alive and at the same time I'm happy she has finally gone to rest. She suffered a lot for something she had no say in" Stephanie said and paused to laugh a little
" I mean, no one ever has a say in what happens to them. There are some things that are man caused and there are just some things that just happens, no warnings. Life is as fickle as that" Stephanie said
" She had her life planned out just as I had. One beautiful thing that happened while she was in the hospital and I was there was that there was this female Doctor who was in charge of her. The woman was very lovely and one minute I wished I was Medical Doctor like her" Stephanie said and paused to look at me
" Do you think I will look good as a Medical Doctor" Steph asked
" I don't think so" I answered
" Why" She asked
" Because you are not nice" I answered with a subtle smile trying to crack a joke.
" With everything I have done for you. I'm not nice enough" She responded
" What have you done for me" I answered still smiling
" I'm just joking. You are a nice person. Continue what you were saying" I said
