Kenzie

Today was the last day of sixth grade. At the end of the day all of the sixth graders got to walk around the school one last time, all of the other kids stood in the halls and waved goodbye to us as we walked. Jake was next to me as we walked and halfway through I started to tear up so Jake put his arm around me. As soon as he did we heard Josh and Kyle snickering.

Jake turned around so fast, "what is your problem guys?" He asked kind of angrily.

"Oh nothing, just happy for the new couple." Kyle said back. He and Josh have always messed with us saying we're too touchy and we might as well date.

He has no idea how repulsive that is to me. Don't get me wrong though, I love Jake. He is my best friend and I could never live without him but I have never and will never like him like that. Besides, I had someone on my mind already. Billy Nelson. I've had a crush on him for two years. I know nothing will come of it, we never talk and he already told the class he's moving after this school year. So I've already prepared myself for that.

ANYWAYS, after that little problem with Kyle and Josh we just kept walking. Jake kept his arm around me and we just kept walking. As we entered the fourth grade hall I immediately looked for Sammy. As soon as I saw him I saw the tears in his eyes. I walked over to him and gave him a big hug. After our hug I wiped his eyes.

"I know what's got me all teary eyed but what's got you all upset?" I asked him gently.

"H- how am I sup-supposed to go to school ne-next year with out you or Jake or Josh?" He choked on his words.

Jake had kept good on his word from kindergarten, as soon as Sammy could walk and talk he was part of our group. We had all become super close. Sammy did have one other friend in his grade, Danny. He was really nice but he didn't come around a lot when we all would hang out.

"Well, you'll go just like you do now." I smiled, "Jake, Josh, and I will just be down the street and we will come whenever you need us and Danny will be here with you!" I tried to be cheerful but I was also sad to leave Sammy behind.

"I guess... it just won't be the same." He whined.

After that I gave him a knowing smile and one last big squeeze before Jake and I had to keep on going with all the other sixth graders, we were already behind but not too far.

Once we got back to our sixth grade classroom the bell had rung and everyone was grabbing their backpacks and saying their final goodbyes for the summer. Billy Nelson walked up to me. I was so excited, my crush was finally talking to me, even if he was moving in a couple months.

"Hey! Kenzie, right?!" He asked as he got closer.

"Yep, that's me!" I replied a little to happily. I face palmed my face in my head, why did I have to seem so preppy.

"What's with you and the little fourth grader, huh?" He asked rudely, "got a thing for younger guys do you?" He asked kind of laughing. But not a funny laugh, a laugh that told you that you were being made fun of.

"What are you talking about?" I asked confused. Could he be talking about Sammy?

"Don't be stupid." He half yelled at me. "I saw you hugging him like your life depended on it in the hall earlier." He continued, "did you feel bad for him or something? You know with him being a little stupid fourth grader?"

I was fuming, who did he think he was to be saying stuff like that. Before I could even say anything back Jake interrupted us, " hey!" He screamed. "That's my little brother your talking about."

I continued on, "and he's not stupid he's our best friend!"

Billy chuckled, " wow, are you really that lame to say that a fourth grader is your best friend?"
