" Uncle will be here in the morning, He's going to stay a couple of days but he has other urgent matters to attend to, or so he says, so Jace will be in charge while I'm gone. Cash is in here-" he unlocked the drawer of his desk, bundles of cash stacked inside. "Keys are here" he threw them toward me and finally raised his eyes to mine, pausing from his frantic pace and ran a hand through his hair, his face softening. He was running late, which would have been obvious to anyone. He was like a blur running around the room, grabbing files and folders at random and flinging them into his duffel bag.
The seconds ticked by and I raised an eyebrow, stuffing the keys that I had caught automatically, into the pocket of my jeans.
"What's wrong Alec?".
He opened his mouth to say something but closed it again, then paused and looked as if he was going to finally say it, but stopped himself. Shifting his weight from one foot to another. I knew what he was 'trying' to say. I rolled my eyes and walked toward him, knowing since I hated to apologise he was probably feeling the same as me right now. And he had been right about the rogues being of the bad kind but still, I had been right to call him on his brutal rash decision too, right? Either way, I didn't want to be in a fight with him when I probably wouldn't see him for a few weeks. We were made of the same stuff, a few of the traits we shared being impatience and total unneeded stubbornness. They weren't the best of personality traits but we weren't always like that. There was a time when Alec's main concern was which girl he liked best when he had found himself agreeing to go out with more than one girl at the same time, which he did often, Complete and utter ladies man had been him all over. He was a young teenage guy, he wasn't the only doosh in our high school that found himself in the same puzzling situation. There wasn't a moment when he wasn't smiling or laughing or a second when you'd look at him and his eyes wouldn't hold that certain spark of mischief or mayhem, you never knew which with him. But no matter what happened in our week, we would always have those few hours at the weekend when we'd escape away from the others, hole ourselves in his room and spend the night watching bad tv and eating our sugar creation of popcorn, maltesers and razzles mixed together and spend the night booing at the incool parts if the shows, poxorn littering the floor as we threw it atvthe tv in our mock rage. Then half the night was spent cleaning up before Mom saw, she had been a sucker for tidiness and even Alex had only rarely disobeyed her house rules, we had respected her, she had a whole pack to feed and care for and she still found the time to give us her undivided love and attention when we needed it.
I focused back on the Alec standing in front of me now and felt a slight tug in my chest
Iike I always got when I reminisced about our past and how different things were now. His forehead creased as he looked at me, I shook my head alightly to het rid of the harmful, unwanted thoughts.
Alec would be gone for a while. These meetings went on for an age, they were a total pain in the ass as other older Alpha's that felt like they were gods deliberated over every minor detail in the werewolf packs Act, scrutinising all the 'strange' happenings in the werewolf world that had gone on since the last meeting. In my opinion, they were a waste of time. In Alec's they were ' essential because we needed to keep the peace'.
I sighed as I stood a foot away, putting on a look of mock annoyance.
"Fine, if I have to be the reasonable, mature, awesome person about this and agree to forgive you for being a total asshole, I will. Only because your too stubborn to admit you were a complete ass". It was his turn to raise an eyebrow as a slight smile broke his face, he bent down and retrieved his bag, slinging it over his shoulder.
"I'm guessing that was an apology".
I shook my head, crossing my arms.
"Nope that was me forgiving you for being a dooshbag, it's only an apology if someone was wrong and I was totally n-".
Suddenly he had me enveloped in a tight bear hug and I unclasped my arms to return it. I couldn't help grinning into his shirt, he was a lot taller than me and I felt like a dwarf beside him. This was one of the few moments we had every now and then, when neither of us were overly stressed out or more content with shouting at each other all day and taking out our frustrations on each other then acting like normal siblings. Well I guess normal siblings pretended they hated each other the majority of the time anyway but hey, we had one up on them, when we fought we had to hold ourselves back that bit more so we wouldn't burst into wolves and beat Each other up that way, lucky us.
"Dude at this rate there going to be packed up and gone home by the time you get you getup there!".
"Shit " Alec muttered reaching down to grab his other rucksack.
I stepped to the side so he could make his way put the door, "I shall see you...when I see you then".
" I'll ring during the week to see how things are going" he replied rushing out the door of his study.
" Okay grandma" I muttered, taking a step toward his desk to see if he'd left any interesting 'Top secret' folders or letters lying around. Which he never did, but one could hope.
"And behave!".
I jumped, startled and took a step back, arms raised in surrender before I realised he had shouted it up without even having to look.
"Will do. Have fun!" I Shouted down as I threw myself into his desk chair and began my search through the stuff strewn across his ebony desk. As if he thought I was actually going to listen.
