"Yes please, do you have any books on Greek mythology characters, and maybe even about Greek writing?" Damini was surprised by how many books there were on Greek mythology. There was a whole shelf for mythology, Egyptian, Hindu, Greek and a few others. She went over to where all the Greek books were kept. There were about 50 books on Greek. Some books were stories of Greek mythology and some others looked like fiction tales based on Greek mythology, though Damini had never heard of them. She didn't have to search too much to find a book about cyclops. In fact, it was super easy, barely an inconvenience. A cyclops was a one-eyed giant, she found out, born to Uranus and Gaea. but, something was still missing. None of the stories helped explain how her parents were murdered.

Damini took her book on Greek Scripture, thanked the librarian, and started climbing up the stairs. On the fourth floor, she caught a glance of the new kids, a girl and a boy. Both of them were tall, taller than Damini herself, who at 13, was taller than most average-height adults. The girl was about 5'9, with long wavy blonde hair and deep grey eyes. The boy was as tall as the girl, and he had wind-blown black hair with sea-green eyes. They looked about 14-15. They didn't look like siblings and certainly not like twins. She wondered how they were related. They both looked unusual. Not like the regular children they usually got at the orphanage, depressed and boring. The two looked like interesting people, almost like they were on a mission instead of coming to live in a place with depressed orphans after their parents had died. Damini liked interesting people like them, and she found herself wanting to be friends with them. "Damini, not now. You have a task at hand at the moment. Maybe later," she told herself. She started climbing up the stairs. As soon as she reached the landing for the next flight of stairs, she saw the girl and the boy whispering to each other from the corner of her eye. She couldn't hear much, but she was pretty sure the girl said "Cyclopes..." "WHAT!?!" she thought. "Did they just- no. maybe I heard her wrong.."

She reached the fifth floor and fled into her room. Her mind was flooding with thoughts. There are these monsters named Cyclops who are from Greek mythology yet she's able to see them and they're real. Her mum had also seen one so that doesn't mean Damini is hallucinating. The scripture on the metal ball is Greek. Now, she heard the two recruits to the orphanage say "cyclopes." Greek, greek, greek. What is up with this Greek stuff!?! And her parents' are dead. Supposedly. Was her parents' "death" related to all this? Damini sighed. Right now, the most important thing was translating the Greek scripture. "Okay, Dam, time to get to work."

Damini spent the next few hours locked in her room, trying to translate the scriptures. It was harder than she had thought since the Greeks used an entirely different alphabet. But finally, after three hours of endless translating, frustration, and violent wall-banging, Dam finally had something in front of her that kind of made sense.

The translation was:

"A girl stuck between seasons, races and choices

Will act like mermaid blood for the mermaid"

That didn't make much sense to Damini. What do they mean by stuck between "seasons?" And mermaids? Does Greek mythology even have mermaids?

Damini doubted that, but she decided to check anyway. She went back downstairs to the library and gave a quick hello to Mrs Q. Damini went back to the Greek Mythology section and picked out a book on Greek Mythological creatures and monsters. She ran back upstairs and plonked on her bed. Damini spent the next half hour skimming the book. She found everything- Satyrs, Dryads, Nymphs, Naiads, Gorgons, Cyclopes, Harpies, Pegasi and whatnot, but she didn't find Mermaids anywhere. "Huh. Did I translate it correctly?" she started to grow tired. Her head felt heavy and her eyelids began to close. It was certainly a weird day. Two new kids, a weird tall man, and her metal ball. The only thing connecting all these seemingly random events was 'Greek mythology.' Maybe Damini should go talk to those new kids, figure out who they are. But she was too tired to move. Abruptly, Damini heard a knock on her door. "Weird," she thought. She never got visitors at this time in the evening, or anytime, in fact, there was only Felix the baker who visits her. But he only comes during the morning, before his first shift to give Damini some cookies. Only one way to find out. She dragged herself over to the door and slowly opened it. Guess she won't have to move. In front of her stood the new kids. Their faces held these grins, like they had shared an inside joke about you, a joke which wasn't nice. "Well Hendrix, sorry to bother you, but we need to talk."
