It was a pleasant afternoon, the sun was at its 'golden hour'. Everything looked bathed in gold. So out of the world. The one-year-old Damini crawled in her garden, giggling to herself. Her parents were talking in the background. Not talking, arguing. At this moment, Damini should have noticed something wrong, they never argued, but she happily crawled towards the gate. Someone was coming towards their house, a tall man, about 8 feet. Wearing seemingly normal clothes, a black tie with a black coat. He had one eye. Baby Damini burst into a fit of giggles and squeals. The man kept staring at her, with the same look, as if expecting something. Damini waved, smiling. The one-eyed guy looked extremely surprised. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it again. He then slowly raised his hands and waved back. "Naina! Naina, where are you, darling? We're going to have lunch!" Damini's mother called her by her nickname. She walked into the garden smiling. Damini looked like a mini version of her mother. Both of them had brown skin, hazel eyes, and wavy dark brown hair. Her mother gasped, staring at the one-eyed man. But instead of looking scared she looked somewhere between frustrated and angry. "I thought you would leave us alone" she breathed, her voice was deadly calm. "Huh," said the one-eyed man as if this concluded something, his face contorting into a smile. Then he turned around and walked away. Damini's mother picked her up and hurried inside "Of all things, why cyclops ?". The image flickered as violently switching between her dorm in the orphanage and her house when she was 1. The speed of the flickering increased until there was nothing but darkness.
"Cyclops," Damini whispered to herself. "What in the world is that?" She was on her way to the library. Kids at the orphanage rarely had phones, to get one you would have to apply to Ms Walker for a reason why you need one. Damini couldn't google it, so she had to go to the library to find out. But where in the library? She hadn't figured that out yet. Damini felt horrible. A glimpse had just happened. Damini had worked so hard not to make this happen. Whenever she saw through the past or the future, it tired her body out, she used to be out for days. The last time she had a glimpse was two years ago when she saw a snake-lady going to catch a bus. She was out for 3 whole days. This time, she woke up at 4 pm the NEXT DAY... Improvement. Damini had missed dinner, breakfast and lunch, she was hoping for some free chocolate cupcakes but the bakery was closed. So Damini had to spend her precious monthly allowance on some packets of chips. She put her hand in the pocket fiddling with the metal ball, as she walked towards the library. It was a cloudy day, with no rain, but there was thunder and lightning. Damini quickened her pace as another lightning crackled. Damini went to the library a lot, she loved reading books. She heaved a sigh as she reached the library, no rain. That's good news. She looked over at the library. It was a pretty old and dusty library, with lots of cobwebs hanging around the domed ceiling. All the books were on many shelves that were arranged in rows. She walked over to the edge of the library. "Hello Mrs Q! Do you have books about cyclops?" Damini asked the librarian. The librarian was a friendly woman. She might look stern when you first meet her, but she was a lively soul. "Ah, Miss Hendrix! Here again? Are you reading Greek mythology, my dear?" Greek mythology? Damini's hands tightened around the metal ball in her pocket. The metal ball with the Greek writings. Damini's mind was racing, things were making sense!
