"Huh..? What do you mean I'm mortal? You just said mortals can't see through the mist, and I clearly can." Damini was confused.
"Well..we think that you're a mortal, but you can somehow see through the mist."
Damini was bewildered. "What...?"
"Well, did you grow up with both your parents?"
"I lived with both my parents until I was five. Then they mysteriously disappeared."
They both gave her sympathetic smiles. "Oh, well, I'm sorry to hear that," Peter said.
Damini shrugged.
"Well, actually, when a mortal and a god have a baby together, the godly parent usually leaves before the baby is born, or leaves just a few days after it's born. The gods are very busy, you know."
"Oh...but...my mum could see Cyclops too. Are we both mortals who can see through the mist?"
Annabell looked thoughtful. "It's very rare to have two mortals who can see through the mist in the same family. Maybe she was a demigod? I've heard of many demigods who marry a mortal just so their babies don't go through the same thing they did and keep them away from monsters."
Damini was surprised. Her mum was a demigod..? Maybe...her dad had left before she was born, so there is a possibility- wait. "What do you mean by 'go through the same thing they did'?"
"Demigods live a hard life, you know? Monsters are attracted to demigods to kill them. Demigods are not safe among mortals, and as they grow older, they attract more monsters who are deadlier. Demigods have to learn to fend for themselves and learn how to use weapons to survive. Of course, we have powers too, but that's a matter for another time."
"Woah, dude! You guys have powers!?"
They both grinned. "Well, I, being the son of the sea god, can control water."
"And I, on the other hand," Annabell said, "am useless because I have no powers because I'm the daughter of the wisdom goddess."
"That is UNTRUE! You are SO knowledgeable, and a great battle strategist. Not to mention your super awesome sword and dagger skills! I swear, without you, I would have died years ago." Peter exclaimed.
Annabell blushed.
Damini grinned. She could see them together as a couple.
"Wait," Damini said, "How did you both get to know about me?"
"Well, there's a prophecy, which talks about a girl and you fit the description."
"A prophecy? Hmm. I found one too." Damini frowned, "But how do I fit the description? It says :
'A girl stuck between seasons, races and choices
Will act like mermaid blood for the mermaid'"
Annabell frowned. "Wait, that's not it.." She pulled out a brown piece of parchment from her bag. It read:
"Ένα κορίτσι κολλημένο ανάμεσα σε εποχές, φυλές και επιλογές
Θα λειτουργήσει σαν αίμα γοργόνων για το γοργό"
"That's in greek.." Damini pulled out the ball. "So is this."
Peter and Annabell studied the ball
"It says the same thing as ours. " Annabell said. "Did you translate it by any chance? Greek has synonyms, you might have gotten it wrong."
"Yeah," Peter said. "It reads:
'A girl stuck between times, races and choices
Will work like gorgons' blood for the Gorgo'"
Oh. Now the first line made sense. Times. That might refer to her glimpse. Races. Damini was Indian-American. Her mother was Indian and her father was American. Choices. What did that mean? And the last line? That still made no sense.
"Do you know what stuck between time means?" Annabell asked
Damini hesitated "Um..yeah.." Damini bit her lip.
"Well...?"
"I get these glimpses. Of my past and my future. I pass out, and I can see events that happened in my past, or will happen in the future."
"Woah. Really!?!?!" Annabell asked
"Yeah."
They both looked surprised. "Wow! That's amazing!" They both said at the same time, in unison.
They looked at each other and blushed.
Damini smiled politely. Well passing out for days isn't amazing.
Annabell put the piece of parchment back in her pocket. Damini could see a dagger attached to her belt.
"Woah, you have a dagger?? Show me!"
Annabell smiled and pulled out a beautiful bronze dagger from her belt. It was about twelve inches, with a sharp blade, and beautiful carvings on the handle. Damini took the dagger in her hand to observe it carefully. On each side, was a graceful serpent.
Suddenly, Damini felt light-headed. Serpent. Snake. 'Oh no,' Damini thought. She could feel another glimpse coming through.
