About a month after Autumn and Aurora had been dispatched by the Original brothers, things died down enough that Kat had the opportunity to do the unification spell with some critiquing, marrying Jackson, uniting the wolves. And after it had died down with enemies coming, the wolves finally were able to have their own place in the Quarter, no longer needing to be banished to the Bayou. And so, peace finally was coming for all the factions, just as they had all hoped would happen. But the peace didn't last for long. Enemies began coming to New Orleans again, which soon resulted in a battle that killed Marcel and half of his guys that still stood at his side. At this time, Hope had grown enough to be able to start walking on her own.

It was a dismal night, as Kat stood on the balcony of her and Klaus' room, watching Klaus leave the courtyard of the compound. She was silent, since there was nothing that she could say. Like Kol, she would never miss Marcel. He'd played nice with her, but they'd never seen eye to eye. But she felt bad for the portion of the family that grieved for him. Elijah handled it pretty well himself as usual, and she knew she didn't need to worry about Rebekah, but she did worry about Klaus. She knew depending on the person, it took him a long while to get over losing someone. And even though she'd been there before, there was nothing she could say. All she could do was let him distract himself and grieve on his own terms. Since there wasn't really anything she could do, but needed a break, Kol and Rebekah were off babysitting Hope at the compound. After everything that had gone on for almost a year, Kol had been allowed to move in where he belonged.

It was daylight, as Kat walked through the quarter by herself. With wolves in the quarter, it was technically safer for humans now. She didn't think she needed a bodyguard as much. It was several weeks later, so Klaus and Rebekah were better with Marcel's demise than they had been, which was a good sign for her. That meant they weren't as distracted.

Suddenly, without warning, since she hadn't felt like she'd been watched or anything, someone grabbed and tossed her into an alley, making her land on the ground. Then she saw who it was. One of the few enemies of hers that were like her worst than herself when she'd been a vampire. A hybrid named Ansel. Like herself as a vampire, torture was his middle name. She'd taught him everything she knew, after all. And he was vengeful for her ending up killing his family in the past.

"We meet again, Katherine," he stated, as she got to her feet. Then he pinned her to a wall. "Nice transformation you've got going there," he added.

"It's not by choice. I see you finally found me," she stated to him.

"It's been so long. It's time we caught up," he commented. Then, before she knew it, he had a hand on her arm and had blurred her inside a white house, but in the basement of it. He then tossed her to the cement floor.

She got to her feet. She assumed that he was here for revenge, so she knew running wasn't an option for her. She knew facing it head on was her best option. She just had to try and live long enough for them to find her.

"What are you going to do?" she asked, even though she assumed what he was going to do to her.

"We're going to have some fun. It's been a long time, after all, Katherine," he replied.

When he said that, she assumed that what she thought he'd do, she was right. After all, along with Ambrose, Ansel was pretty much exactly the same, maybe worst than herself when she'd been a vampire. Just like her old self, he enjoyed torture and vengeance.

"What are you waiting for then? Get on with it," she replied to him, acting tough like she always did. She wasn't going to let Ansel know how weak she was as a human now, nor her newfound weaknesses. After all, she was pretty certain if he knew that she had a child with Klaus, Hope would be in danger, yet again, and she wouldn't risk that. She lost one daughter. She wasn't going to lose another. But she did tell him one thing. "Besides, I bet that there are people looking for me right now. You can go ahead and have your vengeance, but take it from me. Vengeance doesn't always turn out the way you plan it to. You're a hybrid. You could do anything, yet you choose vengeance. Why is it so hard for vampires and hybrids to not be vengeful? It was the 1600's when I killed your family. This is a new era. Stop living in the past. You could have a future if you let yourself."

"You killed my family and then turned me. I can't turn my back on vengeance like that. It doesn't matter whether you had your emotions on or not. It doesn't change anything, and it doesn't make anything better. I won't have a future if you're still alive. I don't care what species you currently are."

"Do it then. Kill me. Do what you came here to do," she replied, even though she didn't want that. But trying to persuade him away from it wasn't working. He couldn't see her reason. The only option was to encourage him. Maybe it would be enough of a stall for them to find her. She knew she wouldn't last long with Ansel, after all. Not as a human. She'd have a chance as a vampire, but she was weak as a human.

Hours later, it felt, she vaguely could hear fighting. It seemed a distance away, but considering it was a basement of a house, she assumed it was closer than that. She assumed it was one or both of them going against her hybrid enemy. Because of her injuries though, she couldn't much move, let alone make out what was going on. The only thing she could vaguely hear was the fighting, which was fading. She assumed it was from the blood loss.

By the time Klaus knew that Katerina was missing and had learned that she'd been taken by a hybrid, and when he'd figured it was probably an enemy and had been able to track down and kill him, Katerina was in worst shape than he'd ever seen her. Even before assessing her condition and how much blood she'd lost from the torture because of her injuries, he knew something needed to be done now. He couldn't debate as to whether to try feeding her his hybrid blood or not, and he knew she wasn't going to make it home alive in her condition.

In a blur, he was knelt at her side, and pulled her gently into his arms, supporting her head, but also positioning it gently back. He then bit his wrist, before forcing his blood down her throat, hoping to get enough in her so there'd be at least a chance that she wouldn't die for good.

"I'm here, sweetheart. Everything's going to be okay, luv," he told her, hoping she could hear him. He could barely hear her heart, after all. Then, deciding that there was enough in her system, he took his wrist away, which instantly healed. He then got to his feet with her, before blurring home. If this worked, he wanted her home when she woke up, and considering it was Katerina, he didn't know how long it would take for her to wake up.
