-6- some company

It took Peter Parker a week before he sought out the company of Maya again.

He had caught her in the school halls at the end of the day. He stood in front of her, his words stuck in the back of his throat. Maya was caught off guard by his presence initially and furrowed her eyebrows. She studied his face, trying to understand what the boy needed from her. She softened her expression and put her arms around his neck and pulled him into a tight embrace. 

Peter instantly returned the hug and melted into the embrace. He was hit by the smell of her perfume. He knew it well. Aunt May helped him pick it out for her 14th birthday and she had worn it ever since.

He wanted to stay like this forever. So he hesitated for a moment when Maya pulled away and held his face with both her hands. The ghost of a smile played on her lips and Peter could feel his cheeks slightly heat up at her touch.

"I'm gonna come over tonight, okay? I'll bring food"

"Okay" 

The smile on Maya's face grew. It felt good to have her best friend around again. She removed her hands from his face before letting out a slight chuckle and walked past him down the hall.

"Text me what you want me to bring!" She called out before turning the corner.

Peter raised his hand to where Maya's hand was just a moment ago. He could feel the heat radiating off it. Though he wasn't sure if that was the heat from her hands or the heat from the blush that was still prominent on his cheeks.

Peter opened the front door to reveal Maya standing there with a pizza box in her hand, just like he had asked for. He felt like he owed her from the other week when he accidentally stood her up. 

Maya was sitting on Peter's bed, messing around with a Rubik's cube she had found on his desk. Peter watched her intently, her eyebrows furrowed and her lips slightly parted as she flicked through it. She set the last colored piece in its place and handed the finished cube to Peter, who sat opposite her at his desk. 

"Can you pass my drink bottle over?" Peter looked behind him to find the item in question and grabbed it to throw it to her. He had forgotten about his super-strength for a moment and the bottle went flying across the room and hit the wall behind Maya with a loud thud. 

She snapped her head to Peter and gave him a look as if to say 'What the fuck was that for?'.

Peter shot up from his chair in a panic and rushed to Maya, stuttering an apology. She shook her head, brushing him off as she moved the empty pizza box off the bed and laid onto her back and looked up at the ceiling.

"You know, proms coming up soon"

Peter furrowed his brows. Maya had never really taken interest in any formal events, like dances or even Homecoming. So even her acknowledgment of prom seemed weird.

"And?"

"And" Maya turned to Peter and mimicked his tone, receiving an eye roll from him. "I joined the committee. Y'know, just as another thing to add to my college resume" Maya scooted over in the bed to make room for Peter as he laid down next to her.  "Which means obviously I've got to attend" She let out and a sigh and turned to Peter. "Will you come too please?" She flashed puppy dog eyes at him, knowing this would probably take a little convincing. He too wasn't one for school events in general.

He let out an amused sigh and shook his head. "I should be able to make an appearance, just for you"

Maya was taken aback. "I really thought I'd have to convince you more than that. I was even planning to persuade you with the offer of Chinese food"

"Oh, you can still absolutely buy me Chinese food"

"Fine" Maya giggled.

The two friends sat in silence. Maya was stuck in her own thoughts of all the homework she had to get done along with fulfilling her commitments to the prom that was in a matter of weeks. 

Peter's head was quiet. He was stuck focusing on the heat that was radiating off Maya. Hyper aware of all the places their bodies connected, aware of her touch in a way he never was before.
