Peter had insisted on staying by Maya's side during her short hospital stay, despite her demands that she'd be fine and for him to go home and get some rest.

He only left the room in order to walk a block to grab Maya food from her favorite little café after she made a passing comment that the hospital food sucked. He had returned half an hour later with a croissant and a large coffee and held a small bouquet of flowers behind his back that he had picked up from a kind old lady who was still opening up shop as he walked past, but still allowed him to pick out a pretty assortment of sunflowers and white lilies.

Maya couldn't contain the huge grin and reddened cheeks she displayed as Peter handed her the flowers. It was the first time she'd ever been given flowers, well other than from her mom after her dance recitals as a kid. So this felt super special for Maya, and it was a damn shame that this moment had to happen in a hospital bed.

By the time the sun had fully risen, the chaos of the night before was still fresh in their minds, yet neither of the pair had mentioned a word about it. The conversation had jumped from school to movies and everything in between, but they danced around the subject of acknowledging exactly what had happened last night.

By midday, they had received the good news that Maya was getting discharged. The doctors had come through the room one last time to change her dressings, which Peter looked away for, his stomach turning at the thought of her injuries.

Peter was insistent on Maya staying at his for a bit while she recovered, though she was reluctant at first, fearing being a nuisance to both Peter and Aunt May. But Peter assured her it was fine. He'd already spoken to May that morning after she called him frantic after realizing he had never come home the night before. May was horrified to hear what had happened and was more than willing to open her home to her nephew's friend for as long as she needed.

Although she hated to rely on anyone, Maya was thankful for the Parker's kindness. The thought of even going to her 'home' right now made her feel nauseous. Besides, the Parker residence has felt more like a home than hers has since her mom died.

So she welcomed the sight as the taxi pulled up at the front of the house. Peter was quick to exit the vehicle, moving around to the other side and opening Maya's door, reaching out a hand for her to grab onto as he slowly and so delicately helped her out of the car. Maya winced as she stood up, her grip on Peter's arm tightening as she tried to steady herself through the sharp pains that ran across her chest.

May welcomed them at the front door and embraced Maya in a delicate hug.

"Thank goodness you're alright" She breathed, her arms still around Maya's neck.

Maya smiled. "Thank you for letting me stay, I really appreciate it"

"Of course, honey. You are always welcome here." May held her hands on each side of Maya's face. "Now, is there anything you need? Are you hungry? Thirsty?" Peter appeared next to Maya and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"You're gonna overwhelm the poor girl"

May raised her hand in front of Peter's face, not sparing him a glance. "I wasn't talking to you"

"I think I might just go lay down for a while" Maya smiled. "Thank you, again"

A warm smile spread across May's face. "Let me know if you need anything at all".

Peter placed his hand on Maya's lower back as he guided her up the stairs and into his room. Maya wasted no time making herself comfortable in Peter's bed. She tried her best to keep her eyes open and fight off sleep, but she knew her body and mind was still exhausted. So she eventually let her eyes close and fell into a comfortable sleep.

Peter waited until he knew she was fast asleep to allow his suit to show again and pull the mask back over his face. He looked down at his gloved hands and a lump formed in his throat at the aftermath of the night before. Blood still stained parts of his suit. He looked back over to her, fast asleep in his bed and the guilt that had been shadowing him all day was there again.

He spared one more look at Maya before he perched on the window sill and quickly swung off.
