A Helping Hand

As Enzo was admiring himself in the mirror, I was checking my calendar to see when I start school. I started school in 2 weeks. I looked back at Enzo and knew that I could finish his body by then and have someone to talk to during school.

I take the mirror away and do a few tests with Enzo, checking on how his mechanics work. I work on his blinking, his mouth movements, how far he could move his head, and keeping eye contact. After 30 minutes of practicing his movements, I start to work on his torso. I try to get a lot of work done, but Enzo was curious about everything in my room, wanting to know everything about everything in my room, including me. I didn't want to power him off because that would seem mean, so for the next hour and a half, I was building his torso while answering 100 questions.

While I was working, I heard a knock at my door. In a panic, I powered off Enzo and covered everything with a blanket. I went to open the door, but something didn't feel right. I looked through that little hole in the door (I forgot what it was called) and saw that girl again. Yeah I'm not opening the door. She started banging on the door, but I stayed quiet to make her think that she has the wrong room. She banged on the door for a minute, then it got quiet. I heard the sound of heels walking off. She was gone.

I went back to my room and powered Enzo back on and took the blanket off of his head.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Nothing, don't worry about it." I replied. I didn't want him to know about that girl.

"Is my torso done?" he asked in anticipation.

"Yep, I just need to double check everything, put your wires inside, then I can make you wireless in the process!" I said excitedly. I was really happy that this project was becoming a success after 14 tries.

I power off Enzo and put his wires in his torso very carefully, attaching his neck to his torso. Once I attached everything, I then realized he need arms and hands. I get to work in a rush and finish his arms in an hour. I made sure his joints were flexible like a human's, then I attached everything together, carefully putting in his wires in his fingers so I don't break them.

I pushed a button on the program that then made him wireless, so then I wouldn't have to power him on and off again. How he would charge is he would have to sleep for at least 5 hours to be fully charged, then have enough battery power for at least 15 hours.

He opened his eyes and looked down at his body, amazed. I wanted to test out his movements, so I asked him to raise his hand, and he did. Then I asked him to wave, and he did. I then asked him to form a fist and lift his pointer finger, and he did. We went through a few more tests, and he performed all of the actions perfectly, he was even able to lean forward and hold onto the desk he was sitting on.

"Hey, can you get closer?" he asked, staring into my eyes.

"Uh, yeah sure." I say, stepping closer.

Before I could say or do anything else, Enzo grabbed me and pulled me into a hug. He was hugging me so gently, and I heard him whisper, "Thank you..." He was playing with my hair as he held me close. This was probably the nicest thing that has ever happened to me in my life, I've never received a hug before. I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him tight, tearing up as I do so. I never in my life ever thought I needed a hug from an AI.
