The one weapon Karl has in his raging war against Sapnap is height. No matter how many insults or comebacks Sapnap might have, Karl always manages to come back with a short joke, even though Sapnap is only an inch or two shorter than him, Karl relishes that two inches he has on him, how sometimes if he stands up straight enough, he can see the top of Sapnap's messy hair.
It thrills him how annoyed Sapnap gets, how his ears always seem to heat up when they talk about anything related to height, and Karl can practically win any argument with it.
It reminds him of his list, from a while ago, and the first requirement, which read as so:
He has to be taller than me
Karl smiles to himself, at how Sapnap has managed to break another rule without even intending to.He isn't sure why he's so fascinated with the list, it was weeks ago, and Karl isn't even sure he knows where it is, but after one small glance, he has memorized each of the four requirements, and subconsciously applies it to everyone, ok not everyone, Sapnap, whenever they interact, which regrettably, is becoming more and more often as they are officially off for winter break, two full weeks to spend with Dream, George, and Sapnap.
That is until one chill morning when the four of them agree to go to an escape room with the theme of Greek Mythology, Sapnap arrives wearing boots, and they aren't too high, but they are enough to bring him taller than Karl, and only slightly shorter than Dream.
The worst part is that he looks natural in them, he never slips or stumbles, ad his walk is almost exactly the same as he does without them. Sapnap struts up to Karl, and measures them smugly, his hand coming above Karl's head, and get this, Karl finds himself tilting his head up to look Sapnap in the eyes.
Karl makes some remark about how Sapnap needs heels to be taller than him and Sapnap only laughs and slings an arm around Karl's shoulder, dragging him into the escape room.
They don't best the Greek one, or the next two either, but as Dream asks for the easiest one, determined to beat one of them, the lady leads them into one that is clearly made for kids and after 54 minutes, they finally beat it. Karl actually had fun, despite Sapnap's annoying nagging presence, laughing at Dream, who seems to be the only one taking it seriously, is fun, and Karl thinks maybe this winter break won't be too bad.
And Karl finds even as they rendezvous back at Dream's place, and Sapnap takes off his boots, he still carries the same confidence, and even as Sapnap becomes shorter again, Karl can't even find it in himself to gloat, he still feels smaller, and he hates it.
Ok, maybe he doesn't hate it that much.
