They were over at Sarah's house after the whole chancing upon Dylan and Tessa incident. Way to ruin a late-night drive. Sarah entered her home first as she aggressively threw her phone on the couch. Vinnie flinched at the sight. Poor phone! He had never seen this side of Sarah. Sarah was either bubbly or cold, mostly bubbly around him.

But this time, he could feel how gravely she looked, she looked like she was going to murder someone soon. He knew he had said something wrong. He should not have pointed out the couple Sarah was staring at. Vinnie decided to not say anything stupid and stay quiet. Better than having a death wish and digging his own grave. Vinnie stepped inside, slipping off his blue Air Jordans and closed the door behind.

Vinnie stood by the door as he waited for Sarah to say something. However, he did not want to waste time. He wanted to know what Sarah meant by the "I need to fucking tell you something". Who was that guy? And the girl? Who was she? Millions of questions raced across Vinnie's mind. Filled with so much confusion, Vinnie began. "Sarah? What did you need to tell me?"

The way her brown irises pierced into his, Vinnie felt goosebumps. She looked so scary then. Is she always scary like this when she is angry? Weren't doctors supposed to be kind? Vinnie knew just then he should never get on this side of Sarah. He would be dead meat and then parcelled to his home in Seattle.

"There are some things I haven't told you yet. I didn't know why I could not bring myself to do so," Sarah replied. "It might anger you."

"I'll listen."

The look in Sarah's eyes felt so distant that even Vinnie got hesitant to pry her about it further. Sarah was having a hard time forming her words, thinking about how to tell Vinnie about Dylan.

Glancing at the couch, she gestured for Vinnie to sit down. Without further questions, Vinnie sat down quietly. Sarah took a deep breath before she decided to speak about the situation. One thing about life is that you can never bury it, the past always claws its way out.

"Th-The g-guy the-" Sarah stopped and cleared her throat. She had no clue how to tell Vinnie about Dylan.

"The guy that we just saw, that's my ex. He's Dylan. And the girl is his girlfriend whom he cheated on me with," Sarah explained, her head down, not looking at Vinnie straight in the eye. Bam! The truth was out. That was the best way to put it. Straightforward and simple.

Silence.

Sarah feared that this might have overwhelmed Vinnie, thus she stole a glance to look at Vinnie. His chocolate brown eyes had widened and his mouth agape. Vinnie was still shocked, words still processing in his head.

Sarah waited for Vinnie to say something but to no avail. Sarah looked at Vinnie, coaxing him to speak through her eyes.

"Was that Tessa?" Vinnie finally asked.

"Yeah."

"What in the fucking fuck? That's the friend who stole your two years worth of friendship with the guy? And that guy, Dylan, cheated on you?" Vinnie rambled on asking questions, still trying to comprehend what was going on. Sarah nodded in response. This angered Vinnie even more. Those assholes played with Sarah's emotions like it was some kind of game. After everything, they still had the audacity to be a happy couple? What in the actual shit.

"Why didn't you bother telling me? Do you really not trust me?" Vinnie questioned and Sarah looked away, guilty. Sarah pinched the skin on her arms, preventing herself from breaking down just there. "Sarah..."

"I didn't tell you because I was embarrassed, okay! I don't like being vulnerable in front of people. That's why I am cold all the time. I don't like to show people I am weak, that the break-up actually broke me!" Sarah snapped. Her voice was so sharp and fragile that Vinnie felt a pang in his chest. She really wanted to cry. She felt her throat constrict as the pinch on her arm became even tighter.

"You know not everyone is strong all the time...These little perfect imperfections are what makes us human," Vinnie consoled. Sarah brought herself to look at Vinnie. She felt her eyes fail her as she blinked back some tears.

The next thing she knew, Vinnie had had his arms wrapped around her, tightly holding her. His hand caressed the top of her head. In his embrace, the world stopped still on its axis. There was no time, no wind, no rain. Sarah's mind was at peace. Vinnie and Sarah had hugged before, but Sarah would pull out almost immediately. However, this time the hug felt unreal. Pure. Unselfish. Undemanding. Free. She felt her body press in, soft and warm. She did not pull back this time.

"To be honest, your ex-boyfriend looks like a complete shithead and a fucking moron to let go of someone like you," Vinnie whispered as he exhaled into Sarah's hair.

Once that first tear broke free, the rest followed in an unbroken stream. Sarah hid her face on the crook of Vinnie's neck as she began to cry with the force of a person vomiting on all fours. At that moment, she could not believe that she was actually capable of sobbing in someone's arms that was not of her parent's. Vinnie pulled her even closer to him and some part of her felt a burden lifted off her chest.

"Shhh....it's alright..." Vinnie whispered into Sarah's ears and Sarah sobbed even more. It felt good to cry in Vinnie's arms. Even Dylan's arms had not been this comforting. Vinnie's hug reminded Sarah of her mother. She hugged Vinnie even tighter and closed her eyes shut, not wanting to cry more. "If you can love the wrong person so much, imagine how much you can love the right one, sweetheart."

It was painful to see her like this. All he could do was embrace her and let the torrent of her tears soak through his shirt. Vinnie could feel her clench her fists, not knowing whether to be mad or to give up hope altogether. He could hear her silently screaming, suffocating with each breath she took. He ran his fingers through her hair, time and time again, in an attempt to calm the silent war within her mind.

"I wish I never fell in love..." Sarah's voice cracked.

"Shhhhh..."

Sarah sniffled as she finally pulled away. Her face was red and blotchy. Eyes bloodshot, eyelids puffy. She looked like a mess and Vinnie felt cold ice pierce through his heart. Sarah grabbed some tissues as she wiped her tears away. Vinnie just looked at her with a concerned look.

"He's gonna be sorry he lost you and if he does not then he can respectfully fuck off," Vinnie commented as Sarah sniffled again with a small smile forming on her face. He always knew how to calm her down. Unconsciously, she brought a hand over his cheeks, as she stared into his eyes. There was sincerity that weighed in his words. "Also, you look so hot when you cry. Cry more!" Vinnie giggled as Sarah smiled, slapping his cheeks lightly. Vinnie pretended to be hurt as he smiled too. "There it is! The smile. Holy shit, it's so hot in here."

"He was the sunset and I was a sunrise, we were both chasing a different sky," Sarah mentioned as she got up to throw the used tissues away.

"He was the moon and you were the sun and I was the one holding a telescope trying to watch you both shine. But, I forgot the sun shines its light for the moon to shine bright on a dark night," Vinnie replied. Sarah smiled at Vinnie. He always did that. Every time Sarah said something poetic, Vinnie would reply the same way.

"Vinegar we can be poets at this point," Sarah giggled a bit as she sat back down on the couch, close to Vinnie. This time round she pulled Vinnie into a hug and lay her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. His heartbeat was rapid and Sarah giggled. She did have an effect on him. Listening to his heartbeat, she closed her eyes.

"You know how to ruin a moment."
