TW: Slight mention of su1c1de
"Hello? Tessa, be quiet baby, I'll be right there," Dylan spoke from the other side of the line. Sarah's hand shook uncontrollably, it was like poison shooting through her ears when she heard that voice. It had been six months since she had heard his voice and spoken to him. How was he now? Was he still that Dylan that he was before they broke up?
Tessa was there too, of course, she would be there. Sarah's room would be Tessa's now. The memories of that room would be replaced with Tessa's now. Oh, how people move on so easily! Sarah wondered if this was a good idea or should just cut the phone. Words were failing Sarah, she could not reply but was soothed by a comforting hand placed on her shoulder by Vinnie. She turned to look at Vinnie who returned a comforting smile.
"Hellooo? Who is this?" enquired Dylan once again.
Sarah cleared her throat as she inhaled deeply. This was so hard. Suddenly, the cat had gotten her tongue. "H-Hi," Sarah replied, inviting a thumbs up from Vinnie to go on.
"I'm sorry but a hello isn't enough to narrow down who the fuck I am speaking to."
Sarah stared at the phone in disbelief. Did Dylan delete her contact? Sarah had been too immature to go and name Dylan's contact 'Ex' with the vomit emoji but Dylan, on the other hand, had just deleted her contact altogether. Well, why would you keep your ex's phone number when you know you won't be calling it anymore?
"It's your ex, you fucking dipshit," Vinnie exclaimed as he leaned in towards the phone. Sarah turned around to give Vinnie one of her famous death stares. However, this time Vinnie was not backing down in submission, he glared back at Sarah, locking eye contact.
"Which ex, man?" Dylan sighed. Both Sarah and Vinnie's eyes grew wide in shock and disgust. He was the embodiment of evil in humanity. Talk about a playboy and a heartbreaker.
Vinnie snatched the phone away and brought it closer to him. "How many exes do you have? How many girls have you played with to the point they are deprived of love and outright bullied that you can't remember your most recent one?" Vinnie seethed with anger, his voice was shaking with rage.
"Ohhhhh you mean the- hold up who is that? Oh yeah, Sarah with an h? Yeah, what about her man? Are you her new boyfriend or something?" Dylan asked nonchalantly. Dylan's indifference was setting Vinnie off. Sarah was at loss for words. Dylan had told her she was his second girlfriend and his first was named Jessica. Unless he was lying about it. After all, lying was like a cup of tea for Dylan at this point.
"Dillweed- I mean Dylan, I called you because, well I want to know the reason why the fuck you cheated on me with my best-well used to be a best friend? Was I not good enough for you? Then what was the point of you caring for me and even preventing me from ending my own life once?"
This earned a gasp from Vinnie. Sarah had never told him about this. He looked at Sarah and wondered how many secrets there were still between them. She was mysterious to a certain extent but they had both established no more secrets between them, hadn't they? And Dill Weed? He thought he was the only guy whom Sarah had given a nickname to just like how Vinnie only called Sarah 'sweetheart'. Not that he was jealous but it did break his heart knowing she had given Dylan a nickname too. There goes Vinegar.
"Oh, all those things that I did? I was tired. Tired of you Sarah. Tired of you being constantly depressed and sad. You were such a workaholic. Yeah, I get it you are a doctor but what about our private lives? If I tried to tell you about this, you would promise to change but never really did. I am sorry but I was already thinking about how you would be when we have kids-"
"Kids? We never even talked about getting married? And you're already thinking of having kids?" Sarah's eyes had widened as she questioned.
"Sarah, don't you have a private life?" Dylan rebutted.
"Yeah, I do! But seriously I asked you if you had any problem with me working most of the time and you said you did not. And now you're telling me you did? I am tired of your fucking lies and this game you're playing! Good job you won! You won convincing me I am not capable to be loved by anyone!" Sarah yelled. This time she was not going to hold back her anger.
She had enough. She was tired of everything. Tired of caring too much. Tired of crying. Tired of waiting for something that would never happen. She wanted to cry but there were no point shedding tears over something this stupid. Over a selfish idiot. There were no tears left to cry. In the beginning, it hurt. The kind of hurt that left her crying until three in the morning, puffy eyes, nose blocked and swollen. The kind of hurt that followed her everywhere and left her thinking if she ever meant anything to Dylan. But heartbreaks are inevitable. Life is not a bed of roses after all.
"I had no choice but to get close with someone else, and before you say I'm inhumane for doing that, I cheated BEHIND your back and did it with ONE of your close friends and not some random stranger."
Sarah broke into a burst of slight laughter and continued laughing with tears swimming down her cheeks uncontrollably. Dylan really thought he did something telling her that. This was the guy that she could not move on from. The same guy who had lied to her over everything. She wondered if this whole relationship was a lie too. At this point, it would not hurt if Dylan just told her this two-year relationship was just a game and she was a pawn. You cannot expect someone to love you the same way you did to them, with the same amount of intensity, and that was the sad truth. You can love someone but they are not obligated to love you back. You can have multiple connections but that does not necessarily mean that they are meant for you, as much as she hated to admit it.
There are times when emotions feel bruised, and the same way as with a physical bruise, they take time to come up and really show themselves. And right now, it showed how deep the bruise was as Vinnie stared at the hysterical Sarah. He was slowly realising what was happening and how much of a sick person Dylan was. He wanted to shout at Dylan but then Sarah looked at him between her cries and mouthed, "It's okay". It was not okay. Vinnie knew Sarah was not okay but Vinnie did not want to say anything, afraid he might get too carried away.
Sarah stopped laughing as she sighed wiping her tears away with her hands. She sniffled and spoke for the last time, "Dylan man I'm not sure what to say to you except that I thought you were the reliving exhale after a long tiring day but you ended up being that deep sigh that I can't get rid of. But I learnt to live with that so thank you for your honesty. Goodbye Dylan. Thank you for being mine once."
Sarah was about to end the call Vinnie finally managed to pry the phone from Sarah's hands and shouted, "We aren't done you fucking asshole, BYEEEE."
"Hey what the fuck do you mean by tha-" BEEP. The line went dead and Vinnie ended the call.
"Dude, why would you do that for?" Sarah looked at Vinnie with a frown.
"Some losers need to know when to shut up," Vinnie replied as he walked into the kitchen, bringing a glass of water for Sarah.
"Thanks, but why? Why would you do that for me?" Sarah questioned. Her eyes had become even puffier and her head felt heavy. She needed rest, escape reality and wander in dreamland. Vinnie smiled as he caressed her cheeks. Sarah rested her head in his hand as she closed her eyes. His touch was soft and comforting.
"Cause that's what friends are for sweetheart."

A/N: I officially hate Dylan to the core. I remember listening to 'Good in Goodbye' by Madison Beer and oh boy the anger bashing Dylan was so overwhelming. Dylan cheated on her with her best friend like it was nothing. And then poor Vinnie there.
Anyways, updates gonna be much slower now. :(( See yall in chapter 16! Stay safe and don't die alright! TATA!!
