Chapter 4 : Press

Chloe returned to the suite twenty minutes ahead, she met Adriana and Kendall at the door. They were on their way out, the two were having a laugh.

If one thing Kendall is good at, she's lovable. Chloe smiled, glad to see her friend having fun.

"Chloe!" they all surprised to see her at the door.

"The press is here." Chloe reported.

"We're heading there right now." the young artist said. "Kendall has been telling me all about you. My God you're a legend!"

"Kendall likes to exaggerate." Chloe said modestly.

"I can't believe everything that happened to you! How could anyone NOT heard about you??"

"I like to be discreet." Chloe said. Famous almost got me killed. "And please keep it this way."

"But don't you want to be recognized? Wasn't that why you were in DANCE MOMS?"

"It was not my call. My mother and I didn't know what we signed up for. Show business wasn't suitable for me."

"That's too bad. I have a few movies lining up, I can get you in."

"No, but thank you for the gesture." Chloe said. "Kendall can have it."

Kendall was already jumping on her feet.

The elevator opened on the third floor, Don and Don are already there.

"Here." Don with blonde hair shoved a radio into Chloe's hand. "Listen. Don't speak."

It didn't have the fancy features like earpiece or mic extension, just a handheld radio, but Chloe received it with gratitude.

"Thank you." she clicked the talk button twice, a common gesture for acknowledgement on the security field. Don amused.

Outside the conference room was already filled with people, with reporters flashing their cameras and fans screaming for their idol. The two Dons took the front, Chloe and Kendall automatically took to rare, keeping their protectee in the center.

This is the real thing! Chloe told herself, keeping her eyes on the crowd and exits.

"Adriana! Adriana!" the young fans called out.

"Chloe! Kendall!"

"Oh My God! They're calling my name!" Kendall leaped with joy, waving to the crowd.

"Stay calm. They're not here for us." Chloe keep sweeping the crowd.

"I know! But isn't this exciting?"

Inside was packed with reporters, the team reached the stage without trouble, the Dons positioned themselves right and left of the stage. Chloe took the fire exit, instructed Kendall to the other door.

"Chloe, why are you standing over there?" Adriana turned from her seat.

"To maintain a clear exit." Chloe answered from her post.

"Chloe. You're supposed to stand next to me. I'm going to introduce you to the press!"

"Kendall will take the light. I'll watch from the dark."

"Kendall wasn't the one who saved me!"

By now the cameras were set, the director gave the signal to go live, leaving the young artist no time to argue but face the camera.

"Hi! We are live at the Marriot Hotel at Pittsburgh." the host began with a big smile. "Sitting with me is the fastest rising star Adriana Gardner! Now before we get into our interview, there was an incident earlier this week..."

"Yes. I was attacked, but luckily I was saved by a brave young girl. Her name is Chloe Lukasiak, and she's my personal bodyguard now."

"To my understanding, this is the same Chloe Lukasiak from the show DANCE MOMS?"

"Yes! She's right here with me today..." she turned to the fire exit but no one was there. She turned back to the camera with an awkward smile. "But she's also shy."

The host went on asking about the girl who attacked Adriana, and then moved onto her new song and upcoming movie.

By the end of the interview, the press exited and let in the fans, the staffs put them in an orderly fashion, lining up for autographs and photo opportunities. Adriana sat behind a table, she turned and saw Chloe reappeared at the fire exit.

"Where the hell were you? I was going to introduce you to everyone!"

"I was right here, just behind the backdrop." Chloe cocked her head.

"What is wrong with you? A million girls would die for such opportunity!"

"Give it to them. I didn't sign up for this."

The young star rolled her eyes, bewildered at this strange girl. Don and Don each took a side at the table, letting in fans one at the time, among them Chloe spotted something unusual.

A teenager in glasses and orange shirt was carrying a heavy bundle of flowers to his chest, but he was carrying it with hand, his other hand was hidden behind it at an odd position.

"Boy, glasses, orange shirt." Chloe spoke to the radio.

"Listen. Don't speak." she saw Don with Blonde hair spoke into his sleeve.

Frustrated, Chloe moved closer to the table, grabbed a mic from the stack of technical equipment on the way.

The boy waited for his turn, presented the flower. Adriana received it with both hands and thanked him, the bouquet was so big she couldn't see his other hand withdrawing from underneath.

Chloe dashed to the scene, threw the mic across the air, it struck the boy's face with a big thump, knocking him away from the young artist. From his hidden hand fell out a bottle, it hit the floor and broke, releasing a vaporizing white gas, triggered the fans into frightening screams.

"Kendall!" Chloe shorted.

Kendall woke from the panic, saw Chloe grabbing Adriana, she quickly remembered her role, caught up and took the artist's other arm. The two pushed the frightened young star through fire exit and down the stairwell.
