The charity dinner was held at the Sky Lounge of the US Steel Tower, the tallest building in Pittsburgh, offering a 360 open view to the city night.
Adriana Gardner delivered the opening with her new song, then took her seat at the dinner table as the auction carried out, displaying a collection of art pieces to be donate to charity.
Don and Don stood behind Adriana as the young star sat with her mother and manager. Chloe has arranged a seat nearby, so she and Kendall could sit back to back with their protectee.
"You're Chloe." people at her table greeted.
"Yes."
"From DANCE MOMS, I heard."
"Yes."
"You're the brave girl saving Adriana."
"Thank you."
Chloe responded to the table briefly, keeping her eyes at the surrounding, whereas Kendall was all exciting about meeting people, collecting business cards for future opportunities.
In the middle of the auction an alarm went off. Chloe leaned back to Adriana.
"Another prank?"
"Not that I know of."
Moments later a man dressed in the building's security uniform approached the podium and whispered to the host.
"Ladies and gentlemen. I'm afraid that's the fire alarm." the host spoke to his mic. "Please don't be alarmed, just sit tight. The building management is looking into it. Bill, I told you not to smoke in the man's room!"
His words brought laughter from the floor.
"We should move out." Chloe said.
"Relax. That's what sprinklers are for." Adriana saw Chloe stood up from her chair. "Where are you going?"
"To take a look." she turned to Kendall. "You stay here, I won't be long."
Without another word, Chloe went out the dinner banquet, took the stairs down and found a building staff.
"What's going on?"
"Something set off the fire alarm."
"Where did it go off?"
"We're not sure. We're looking into it."
"Where is your security operates?"
The staff looked at the young girl and her badge.
"Are you with the party? You should stay with your group. We'll inform you when we..."
Chloe turned away before he could finish his sentence.
She pushed through a fire exit and looked down the stairwell, it was quiet, no burning smell or rising smoke. She went back into the building, across the elevator lobby to the north side exit, nothing.
Am I over reacting? I'm over reacting.
Then something struck her, something they taught in all schools - a fire door is specifically designed to prevent smoke from filling into the exit. But there's no time to check every floor!
She took out her phone and pressed the number for Don.
"Don." the other side answered, she wasn't sure which one, she should have put descriptions on the names.
"Don, it's Chloe. Do you know where the security room in this building is? I need to know which floor the alarm went off."
"It could just be a smoke detector."
